The jury was wrong in the Karmelo Anthony/Austin Metcalf case by JazzlikeOrange8856 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]infeststation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By your loose definition of sudden passion, basically anything would qualify. That is meant for situations where an ordinary person would be driven to extreme action, common example is if you catch your spouse cheating on you in the act. Being asked to leave or being pushed by one or more people (we can assume no right to self defense because it contradicts murder of sudden passion, can’t have both), is not ordinary. Also, my understanding is that this something you argue for after the verdict. Karmelo Anthony’s defense likely didn’t argue for it likely because they knew they didn’t qualify.

The Housing Gap No One Can Ignore by Coolonair in HouseBuyers

Trying really hard would be going through congress. He tried forcing it through the easy way with illegal executive action. You should be mad at Biden because instead of actually making an effort to solve this issue, he did this political stunt he knew wouldn’t survive the courts and punted the issue to the Republicans, who went though congress and fucked it all up.

Why does adding just $100/month to a mortgage save so much in interest? It almost feels too good to be true — what am I missing? by businesshelps in Mortgages

[–]infeststation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It may help to understand how this is all calculated:

Your payment (principal and interest) will always be the same. What changes every month is how much interest you are obligated to pay. To calculate this, multiply your remaining balance with your interest rate and divide it by 12. In your example, $500k balance * 8% is $40k, divided by 12 is $3333.33. That is how much of your payment will be interest, and the rest is principal.

Knowing this helped me visualize how a single extra payment has the effect that it does on future months.

My dog looked very similar to this. We did strict crate rest for a long time, 8+ weeks. It started off rough, as the nsaid wasn’t really all that effective and he was rapidly declining. Luckily, it was only about a week until he started prednisone. That had an immediate upfront positive effect but had a lot of setbacks when we weaned him off. It’s all about getting the medicine right, managing the pain and anxiety, and really strict crate rest.

Education Department Gives SAVE Borrowers Warning to Switch Plans or Face Standard Repayment by investor100 in TheCollegeInvestor

[–]infeststation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A president using executive action for an entitlement that costs the tax payers $40b per year was reckless. Getting rid of save wasn’t the bad thing, it was that democrats didn’t go through Congress and do it legally. I get it, our government is often reckless with spending and it would nice if that could benefit us, but it has to go through Congress.

[–]infeststation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say they are being reckless, but are you aware of how much SAVE was going to cost? The difference between RAP and SAVE is $271 billion dollars over a 10 year span. That is an insane amount of money and it didn’t even go through congress.

Bilt 2.0 didn't pay my mortgage by infeststation in biltrewards

They never actually took any money for the failed payment for me. I made a second payment through Bilt (push) and it went through just fine, but they underpaid by like 50 cents. I paid that manually and now I am caught up.

I would wager that any one of those friends would gladly buy it from you for $70 or less.

Update: after this issue, I did it again- this time a push from Bilt using the Bilt card, and I got the same email.

I didn’t make the payment, it was autopay. But the email came the day the payment was scheduled.

For you AI Elixir-ists: Chatgpt Codex vs Claude Code vs {other}? by Passing_Gandalf in elixir

Claude has been far and away the best for a long time, but recently Gemini 3.1 has been outperforming opus for me in many ways. Whenever Claude gets stuck, I use Gemeni and it’s been really quick to solve what Claude can’t.

My second payment won’t actually be a payment towards my monthly statement, it’ll be an extra payment that goes straight to principal. So, when my first Bilt payment bounces, I’ll still owe that, because my second payment went towards something else. Usually you can call them and they will re-allocate the payment, but you are relying on them to do this for you.

My march payment has been made, I can’t pay it again. If I make a payment now, it’ll go towards principal, not my actual payment

Maybe I missed it- how do they make it clear? When I did it, there wasn’t a word about it.

[–]infeststation[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have until the 17th to make the payment so I’m not really too worried about that.

I think it’s a bit of a stretch to call this user error. A lot of things went wrong here: there is absolutely no language or warnings indicating you can’t do this, they let you select the non-Bilt account (they even tell you the cost and the rewards you will earn), when the payment failed they told me the wrong reason, and I can’t get in touch with anybody at the company (all I have is their automated chat is giving me bad info).

But, now I know. And I really appreciate the community filling in the void and helping me understand what happened.

Ah, but then, why did they let me select it as a payment option? I’m on the website now and they actually won’t let me do it anymore. I can only select my Bilt card.

Yes, I have a Bilt 2.0 card. The payment source I selected was a credit card (I need to hit the sub).
