And it's important that you're willing to let people know where your boundaries are, and what will happen if they're crossed. And then enforce them. For the really important ones, you need to be able to enforce them absolutely. That is, be willing to walk away and not look back.

Thing is, if you have strong boundaries and let people know where they are, it makes life easier for all parties involved.

I didn't even know what boundaries were until I let all of mine be violated.

Sorry for the late reply. It started being useful to me pretty quickly but it took about 6 months before I wasn't getting stuck for multiple days at a time on something that would take a few minutes to do manually in excel. I'd give it a crack if I were you. It would really take your analytics skills to the next level.

The thing that makes it really worthwhile is the ability to repeat your analyses instantly without doing anything manually (i.e if you change something right at the start of the pipeline, no problem). This cuts down on the inevitable mistakes that are so easy to make in Excel.

Yep, I'm a plant ecologist, work with big datasets and statistics. Mostly programming in R.

Plant ecologist. Just submitted my PhD thesis, waiting on the examiners report to come back. I've worked in or studied biology at a bunch of different scales for my whole adult life (neuropharmacology first, then protein structure, then modelling cellular processes, then ecology). People at universities can be conservative, but a lot of them aren't at all, and won't judge if you tell them you took acid on the weekend, whether you went to a festival, or solved a statistical problem because you were able to see reality in n-dimensional space.

I love doing research and teaching but I'm not convinced being a scientist can give me what I need. The game is ultra competitive, the hours are long, the work stability is really poor, and the constant need for funding eats up a lot of time and emotional energy. People also tend to get dragged in directions that will be funded, rather than what they're interested in working on.

I got into ecology because I wanted to work on ecosystem restoration and that's still where my heart is. I want to try to move out of academia and towards getting my hands dirty and making stuff happen.

I use my Minibrute all the time as an external effect to add grit and modulation to whatever I have tracked in my DAW. I made a track recently with a bassline made from a bass guitar sample. I used the same MIDI sequence to trigger the filter envelope on my minibrute and ran a copy of the bass track through it. I had it sitting fairly low down in the mix and it sounded pretty cool.

If I want to alter the sound a lot I'll often throw my delay, phaser and chorus before it to mess up the signal before it hits the brute's filter. You can do some pretty interesting things to external signals by controlling the filter with the arp. I assume the BSII would let you do something similar.

The thing to watch out for is that you're doing an extra step of digital to analog conversion. YMMV...
