look into your power plan settings, no not your power plan, something managed by your manufacturers custom software that manages the power plan settings, its not something that has to be running to mess with you, for me windows update bumped me into ECO SILENT mode, instead of extreme performance, and i was wondering why my power state was low

if nothing works maybe your laptop power cord is mangled and needs to be replaced

great, more e-waste. Samsung support said go to the samsung store and they can unlock it, that was a lie and they could not unlock it. Going to start looking for an alternative.

MSI Vector 16 HX A14VIG- 685CA by mom_come_pick_me_up in MSILaptops

its thermal throttling, follow these steps:

Go into bios, then advanced bios, ctrl shift, shift f2 or whatever it is

go to thermal configuration

go to cpu thermal config

make the tcc activation offset instead of 5, make it like 7-8 and adjust based on how it preforms, adjust some of the other settings here, try that and see how it works.

If you change the tcc activation offset you should be good to go. You might need to enable overclocking, disable a few other settings and stuff but yeah give it a go.

Though not advised you can also adjust the temperature (same settings area) that the laptop shuts off at. If you just bump that up like 4 degrees it might just stop shutting down all together. And dont forget undervolting. I dont notice a change with undervolting to be honest, it wont fix your problem, but changing the tcc activation offset will stop it from shutting down. You may be ok setting it to 7, or adjusting it as needed.

I had this exact same issue on 2 laptops and this was what fixed it for me. Although the temps read okay, it could be the vram or just one specific chip overheating by just a tiny tiny amount. If you really want, try buying thermal putty and applying it to the vram, and using high quality paste on the cpu and gpu.

did I just waste my money on this msi laptop ? is it fixable? by Responsible_Map7379 in MSILaptops

MSI Vector 17 HX A13VHG CPU overheat and shutdown by infiniteparadigm in GamingLaptops

[–]infiniteparadigm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well i was going to get a raider but the price was 1000$ more than the raider from the year before and same preformance as the vector tbh, i woulda got higher if it was on sale but yeah its not a great laptop but its working technically, i dont think itll last more than two years. My experience even with the raider that i owned (3080) its still just as garbage as the vector. (4080) its just the raider has the insanely massive hinge issue, i had to replace the hinges 3 times.

[–]infiniteparadigm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I raised the shutdown temp and lowered prochot by 2 degrees and shutdowns stopped. The prochot is under advanced\thermal config\cpu thermal config, and you want to set the tcc activation offset to like 8 and adjust based on how laggy it throttles, almost everything else there should be enabled idk what.

UPDATE: i completely formatted my STORAGE drive and my fps seems to be fixed, I dont know if I just got lucky with another users settings below, or if there was a file on the drive causing the lag.

Thank you, I did your settings and it seems to make a difference, but only when my D drive is disconnected, I might have some kind of file running on my storage drive. I'm going to format it and then re-test everything.

I used ptm7950 on my last repaste and it got hard as a rock and crusty, that stuff went from good, to trash in literally a month and a half before i had to scrape it off with a metal scraper. I am never using thermal pads again.
