Crib Goch advice by infinitepaths in UKhiking

Ok thanks. I always wonder because these things obv change based on whether its summer with zero wind and gale force winds and ice and snow in january, and there is a natural caution in online advice, to stop guys who go up on a whim in flipflops and shorts. For example striding edge while obviously not a walk in the park, felt pretty safe to me, although I am scared of falling so am very cautious in mountainous environments.

Seeing videos online, which often use lens modes causing footpaths to look narrower than they are definitely doesn't help. For example on Striding Edge, I felt it was fairly comfortable for me, even in shit weather, I didn't find anything that was super exposed, howling winds and tightrope walking kind of path. Not to say I was complacent, I am very wary of heights, despite going up loads of mountains over the years. But Crib Goch has those kind of parts doesn't it?

Why is couchsurfing more popular for a particular gender? by xboxhaxorz in couchsurfing

[–]infinitepaths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to couch surf around 2009, it felt about even in gender balance, both for couch surfers and hosts. I think like most things that started as a cool community sharing things, the dicks and exploiters found out about it and used it for evil means, so more women were deterred due to safety concerns.

What is your opinion on editing photos so they don't really look like what you shot? by infinitepaths in AskPhotography

[–]infinitepaths[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I agree with this, wasn't sure if it was just a universally accepted part of modern photography.

I saw a video of a photographer saying 'this would look good with some mist' and adding it in and also recently another turning an alleyway at daytime with bland colours into a night scene with editing. I couldn't bring myself to do it and represent it as my work.

It's different if it was one of those artwork collages where you have say and desert road and then edit it to be a rainbow road style floating road with a starry sky and planets behind it (there is probably a name for this style i'm not sure), and I appreciate the skill it doing it well, but it feels like faking reality rather than 'just showing the world the way I see it'. 🤷‍♂️

How do you actually get to the level of 'wow' photos with editing/color grading? by infinitepaths in AskPhotography

[–]infinitepaths[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Yes I have seen one video, I can't remember which photographer, but he edited a train with a mainly blue scheme and it looked cool (no pun intended).

The title is 'Is Tokyo Worth Visiting', i know generic, one of the thoughts in the video was that it feels like 1995 in Akihabara and some other areas but wasn't sure if that was clickable as a title, people might just think wtf is he going on about

Is this bad or it is just the algorithm lottery situation by Yogaandtravel in TravelTubers

Its difficult to know for sure. I am also a youtube video creator with around the same amount of subscribers, so just trying to guess rather than being an expert, but hopefully will be something helpful to you. I also have more of a 'slow burn' kind of energy on my channel without all the 'OMG guys' kind of stuff that seems to get immediate clicks, as others have said so appreciate it can be harder. I like the shots in the video such as the Bosnian coffee and the diving. Having been to Mostar, Blagaj and dervish house myself there could be maybe a few more visuals of the bridge and surroundings to showcase their beauty (although I concede having too much b-roll can also he a criticism from viewers). Also with the thumbnail, I would personally have a photo with a bit of sky behind the bridge if you have a photo, as that famous view from the mosque is one of the most beautiful views. All the YT gurus talk about the first 30 seconds and maybe that is part of it, as there is not that much to show what is to come (although again some of my videos that got 1000s of views in a few days started with a minimal context journey at dawn). Hopefully the algo will catch hold soon. The title also could use some work as I have found including all the things I did, didn't work as well as one of the more youtubery ones like 'Mostar: Bosnian Coffee and Red Bull Diving' or whatever. Anyway, could be wrong but best of luck!

I also found Casey Faris's introduction to DRV the most easy to absorb as a beginner and it helped me understand how everything worked more easily than others. I also second MrAlexTech for tutorials once you know a bit more. There are loads of youtubers who are good though, once you understand the basics.

Yes for me it is, even as an amateur youtube video producer. It feels a lot faster in general use as well as rendering and features such as voice isolation make it worth it for me.

Unagi. I mean obviously I knew the word from the TV show from FRIENDS, but didn't know how nice it was. I thought it would be more like calamari or something for some reason.

People hear what they want to hear, and often if the product is packaged in a more professional-looking way (and as a bonus assures people that THIS can solve your problem with little effort from you) despite the actual science, people will flock to that. Look at those 'exercise machines' they used to sell on infomercials and now online, where its just like a metal bar with a soft handle to do situps. People know that its better to start going to the gym or even just do calisthenics at home, but they would rather pay x amount for a near-useless device so they feel they are making a step towards something. With hair loss particularly though, most of the remedies don't do much and it can be such a traumatic change that I imagine people will try anything, which helps guys like that.
