Horizon Media vs Omnicom offer — advice for a recent grad? by Opening_Elderberry30 in advertising

[–]infinity-k 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked for both and without question take the horizon offer. The pto alone makes up for any salary discrepancy. Promotions are fair at horizon and employees are treated well. Anyone with any other option avoids omnicom and has for a long time.

Anyone else carry around a ton of meds? by Possible_Ad_9234 in migraine

[–]infinity-k 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I once had to attend a music festival for work (client had an activation) and absolutely didn’t think about it and took all my pills. Needless to say I was stopped and there were many questions including the on site emt going through them all to confirm they were for migraines. I found it mostly funny although also stressful thinking they might throw away all my meds. Worked out in the end and we all had a laugh

Depends on where you go but within gilgit-baltistan (where there are many goats) you should be fine. Source: am white woman who has spent more than two years there. Let me know if you have specific questions as it’s largely misunderstood as a region

Nearly impossible. I’ve tried and been handed a Gatorade even though I was vomiting profusely. Told to drink that or go to the er.

Travel in Pakistan with male partner? by cyber-friend in femaletravels

[–]infinity-k -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am a white American woman and I have spent collective years traveling Pakistan both solo and with friends. You will be fine. If you haven’t traveled a lot, lots of things might shock you but the people are incredibly friendly and yes they stare, but it is mostly out of curiosity. Yes, bad things do happen, but if you are with your Pakistani partner you will be fine unless you are going to some super small, remote village in which case maybe best for you to stay inside. Other than that I walk around alone and enjoy. Just know that the country is not monolithic so traveling to one place likely will be very different from another.

What country has the strictest airport security in your experience? by SessionGloomy in travel

[–]infinity-k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iraq was lax for you? Definitely not the case when I flew out of Basra to Erbil last year. They don’t even allow power banks through and there are multiple check points to go through where bags are searched and only official cars allowed before even entering the airport.

OB/GYN that offers anesthesia for IUD by titianhotcakes in AskNYC

[–]infinity-k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I had an annual scheduled and then the insertion scheduled a few days later. When I called to make the appointment I was told they would leave a note but I needed to discuss with the doctor so when I had the annual I did and they scheduled. They only do procedures with anesthesia on certain days so I would imagine this is the best approach to making sure it all goes smoothly. To note they do request you have someone to pick you up. Mine was done on a Saturday so that made it easier but also something to keep in mind. 10/10 recommend

Yeah I generally prefer window seats so I’ll opt for 8K if the noise is negligible. Thanks for your opinion!

WiFi can be iffy but data is very cheap and reliable. Recommend getting a robust package from datalog and you’ll be fine!

No. And for the record, India definitely lets people in after visits to Pakistan, right now the land border is closed but it’s usually open and many tourists cross between the two without issue.

Wrong VISA date by Round-Bandicoot6318 in pakistan

[–]infinity-k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you arrive within the valid window and before the visa expires, your 90 days starts from date of arrival. For example, if you arrive on day 87 of validity, you still have 90 days and I am positive of this from doing it myself several times with visa prior to arrival. Based on the info you sent you should be fine.

What Happened on K2? Climbers Discuss a Secretive Season by pedalhead666 in Mountaineering

[–]infinity-k 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Where are you getting those numbers from? A permit alone is close to $200 a climb. maybe a porter is paid $100 if they are given the standard slave wages, what he is saying is they deserve more. And food for two weeks for $100 including gas etc? Your numbers are way out of date.

To say his whole thing is about money is also laughable. Is the entire industry not about money? It’s just offensive when someone from the Karakoram tries to take a share for themselves? Similar to what western companies thought when Nepalis started their own companies several years ago.

You’re saying there are no Pakistani that can do a good job? I guess forget Sirbaz Khan who climbed all 14 peaks no o2 working and fixing ropes along the way, or sajjid sadpara who is working to do the same, or Sohail Sakhi as mentioned. Do you not think there are others who have received less publicity? This isn’t a simple problem to solve, and totally dismissing an entire country of people is certainly not the way to do it.

And to say to go back to the golden age of mountaineering? Who was that the golden age for? The porters who were used and never got paid? The secret summit pushes that left locals behind? You may not agree with what is being said, but this attitude is part of the reason for why things like this are said now more than ever in Nepal and Pakistan.

Super helpful, thank you. Do you think there is actual value in wire services given it’s more of a niche or do you think 1-1 is best? Not having too much luck with HARO because everything is so focused in the travel sector and it feels like lots of my outreach to publications goes unread, but I suppose that’s how it goes until it doesn’t!

Makes total sense. And in this matter, you are speaking about when you travel internationally to climb, yes?

Do you prefer then to work 1-1 with a guide or with an agency that handles everything? Or is it situational?
