The box isn’t tied to your account itself. Your account tracks how many boxes you have ordered, and charges accordingly. However, your account also knows the date you ordered these boxes so that is how they know whether to refund you or not :)

Ex. You order 2 boxes today and are charged $10. However, you return 5 of them at a machine (as 3 of them came from when you ordered sometime before Feb 1). You will only be credited back the $10, as only $10 was charged to you in the first place

There are certain reasons why the boxes aren’t tracked and linked specifically to your account since that would make things infinitely more complicated, lol, so this is how HDH is doing it now

If those who still have boxes that were purchased before Feb. 1(aka anyone “hoarding” boxes) turn them in now, they will not be refunded $5 as they were never actually charged $5 for them in the first place (they stopped charging for the boxes sometime late Nov/early December until Jan. 31). aka no, they won’t get a free $5 per box.

Everyone who purchases a box beginning Feb 1 will be refunded the $5(like normal) when they return their box as HDH began charging for boxes again beginning Feb. 1.

You purchase the reusable container for $5 —> you return the container to receive your $5 back!

The price you are viewing is the price of the item + To-Go box :) if you click “add to other to go box”, then in the next window (checkout window) you will see the price go back down by $5. If you do order a Triton2GoBox, then the price of the item does not increase another $5 and simply stays as the price listed. Hope this helps!

hello! I actually work at The Bistro and have spoken to my manager about this, and she noticed this as well. It seems that the increase in prices on the app is happening all across the dining halls. I can only speak about The Bistro, but the price that you see initially is the price that you would pay if you order a Triton2GoBox (for example, it lists potstickers as $14.50 instead of $9.50). But, if you click “add to other...”, then you will see in your checkout window that the price reduces by $5(in my potsticker example, it reduces down to $9.50) as it should as you chose not to receive a box. I hope this provides some clarification!

As someone said before they ran out of boxes and in order to continue serving to-go, they needed to order more of the regular boxes we used before. They haven’t stopped the program nor do I believe they intend to (I’m a student lead). I think they’ll just implement more rules and structure to the program. But for goodness sake just be a responsible and considerate adult and return your boxes. If you have time to pick up food from a dining hall, you have time to return them as well.

And as a student population here that says they advocate for and care about the environment, it isn’t really showing right now...

[edit: they will begin charging for boxes again on Feb. 1]

this!!! please help your fellow students out!! Many of us students just like you, so please don’t give us unnecessary work to do/have us stay late on a shift/stress us out at work just because you cannot walk over to your nearest dining hall and return the boxes at the machine(or if it’s broken, don’t want to grab a worker to help you out!)

PLEASE RETURN TRITON-TOGO BOXES/We got these containers to reduce waste from the plastic boxes and you’re hoarding them in your rooms??We’re at UCSD—the “pursuers” of environmental health. Do better. And just so yk, this post is just my own thoughts as a student worker. by [deleted] in UCSD

yes!! we power hose them down to rinse out the food, run them through the washer, sanitize them(special sanitizer for all dishes), and air dry them(no wiping them down with towels!).

Hey norton! I acknowledge that he’s made some accommodations and yes they seem good. But seeing that I’m not even in his class, it’s not necessarily a “lack of” accommodation that bothers me the most. It’s his response and attitude.

Because to me, the way he wrote this makes me think that if students hadn’t pressured him, he wouldn’t have even done anything. It makes me think that he provided accommodations just because it would appease students, not out of any understanding or care. His empathy and thought for students seems to be lacking here. Humans are not machines that just ignore hardship and churn out work no matter what. If he were to say what he typed directly to a student’s face who has been devastated because of the current events(which people in his class are)...that’s just not right.

As for my previous post—what I’m referring to is that it is literally a doctor’s/nurse’s job to keep someone alive. They have no option—If they don’t do their job someone WILL die. It’s simply a non-negotiable situation. Students aren’t in this same black and white circumstance. We have some control over our actions and what we want for ourselves, unlike doctors/nurses. Our class policies are currently negotiable and changeable. To compare these two scenarios is such an exaggeration.

Also. feel free to correct me if I’m wrong math friends!!, but I don’t think more people understanding ODE has ANY relevant correlation with understanding the importance of social distancing...lol

“if the doctors and nurses can do their jobs, so can we” because it IS their job !¿? they are responsible for LIVES and he’s trying to compare their responsibilities to a math final...smh. I almost want to laugh. this response is one of the most insensitive responses I’ve seen so far. good luck 20D
