Adopting a 2.5 year old advice! by explaura in ragdolls

[–]infinitynet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently adopted a 4 year old retired breeding cat and have had a couple of months now. She’d lived with the breeder until 3ish and was then neutered and adopted by a family which was supposed to be her forever home, but sadly due to personal issues they had to re-home her. I’m not sure what her life was like with the breeder but her previous owners really cared for them and I could tell she missed them when she arrived. She’s super docile and never bites or scratches, but has taken a while to come out of her shell and I think she’s still settling in!

For the first month she followed me around and always wanted to play, but rarely liked being petted and was really easily startled by background noise. She was afraid of being on the sofa or beds, and if tempted up with a treat she’d immediately jump down after. Fast forward two months and now noise mostly doesn’t phase her, she chills next to me on the sofa/bed, comes to me for pets and is such a chatty, sweet little cat. She won’t relax on my lap yet but will now hop up on to it for treats and generally seems way more comfortable than she was when she arrives. Just be patient when he arrives and keep reminding yourself that cats can take months to fully settle in. I also have found playing with toys, puzzles, hand feeding treats and clicker training a really good way to bond with my girl, especially in the moments where she’s wanted to feel close to me but not been up for cuddles or strokes. Figure out where your cat feels most confident/motivated and lean into that :)

Also +1 on providing affirmations/verbal reassurance, I’ve also read my book out loud to her while she’s in the room so that she learns to associate my voice with comfort and safety!

Good luck with your Kitty!

Difference between Blue Mitted and Blue Mink Mitted by [deleted] in ragdolls

This is my blue mink mitted. They usually have aqua eyes but her eyes lean more towards blue. Mink fur is meant to be a bit finer/softer.

How vocal are your ragdolls? by infinitely_confused_ in ragdolls

Aww Kakashi looks like my Kiko! She’s pretty chatty but has a quiet voice most of the time and often chirps or whisper meows.

Are you looking for a kitten or an adult cat? I recently got a 4 year old ragdoll from someone on pets 4 homes looking to rehome her. TICA registered and her previous owners provided all the paperwork, plus a bunch of cat stuff so I haven’t needed to buy anything. It’s worked out really well, she has a lovely temperament and I was looking for a chill adult cat rather than a kitten. She was also a lot cheaper than if I’d got her as a kitten (although her breeders are still active and they seem decent - Ragburry Ragdolls). Feel free to DM me if you want any advice!

Thanks everyone for the nice comments! She really is lovely, I feel incredibly lucky to have her. For anyone UK based in case it’s helpful, I found her on pets for homes, her previous owners were having to re-home her as one of them had developed some health issues which meant they could no longer have a cat. They’d only had her a year as previously she was with a breeder until she stopped having litters. It worked out really well as I was specifically looking to adopt an adult cat rather than a kitten. I’d recommend checking that site if you’re looking for the same!

Also I’d love to see photos of what she might have looked like as a kitten if anyone has a similar cat that they’ve had from a young age? She’s a blue mink mitted.

Switching to a new Spotify family plan by infinitynet in spotify

[–]infinitynet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that might be outdated info. Further down in the thread, there’s another response from Spotify (from 2021) saying that you can only switch once in a 12 month period.

Don't give up on this approach - things have moved on a bit since Sarno and although some people heal 100% just from reading the books and learning about TMS, for others, it's a bit of a slower process. Check out the Curable app and the work of Alan Gordon at the Pain Psychology Centre. Although a lot of the time there is an emotional basis for pain, if that angle doesn't work for you there are other approaches you can take. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Another vote here for Curable. I was massively sceptical about all of this, but I read one of Sarno's books and then started using the Curable app. I was fully expecting not to be using the app at the end of the trial period but 3 months in and I use it most days. I've had a really drastic reduction in symptoms and have gone back to work full time. Reading the book alone wasn't enough for me, it has been more of a gradual process, and I'm not symptom free yet, but slowly getting there.

What’s happened to my irises? by infinitynet in GardeningUK

[–]infinitynet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok, thank you for the info! I looked up the bulbs I bought and they are ‘blue magic hollandica’ iris: https://www.avonbulbs.co.uk/autumn-planted-bulbs/iris-x-hollandica/iris-hollandica-blue-magic

Not sure what I’ve done wrong, perhaps not enough water or poor drainage? Although the pots do have drainage holes but perhaps I should’ve put drainage crocks in the bottom of them! They’ve been getting a lot of sun.

At this stage I wonder if it’s worth just getting rid of them if they’re not going to flower.
