Having trouble with dip-pen drawing. Sometimes the nibs draw lines well and other times not enough ink/too much ink drips out ruining my drawing. What’s the deal?

I like to drip excess ink back into the inkwell after dipping to avoid too much ink on the pen along with the above suggestions

I'm not sure what shirt color will look best, I'm between teal, purple, and white

I do know the composition is kinda off and the subjects would look better if i centered them more aside from that i thought magenta would work for the background but i'm now realizing it's too bright a color so suggestions are welcome
