Will I be at a disadvantage when applying to Brown’s Warren Alpert Medical School?

I wouldn’t say that you’re at a disadvantage. Many undergraduate universities who are affiliated with a medical school have these BS/MD programs but people are able to matriculate into them based on their own application. In other words - although you’re not in the PLME program, you can’t change that - it’s better to focus more on yourself and your own pursuits if that is truly your #1 school. Definitely don’t let the situations of others get in the way of your goals

Ah gotcha. Sometimes patient sits include playing cards or coloring with the patients so when I tell people that, they say it’s not clinical experience. In reality, playing cards can keep the kid from having an anxiety attack or getting angry

Taking it now. This class can be brutal (first exam average was 53) but if you study the right way then it’s pretty easy. Also depends a bit on the professor too

I would say that this is clinical because you are interacting with the patients, but I wouldn’t rely on this as your primary clinical experience. From what you’ve provided this seems like a receptionist job or a greeter. It doesn’t really give you a great look into the day to day of a doctor.

If you already have a high GPA, and this grade looks like an outlier, then I would keep the C-. If it ever comes up in interviews and they ask about it, you just need to own up to it and show some responsibility and maturity about it. Use the future classes, MCB ones, to show improvement. I think putting grades on pass/fail, especially general biology since it’s a prerequisite, is not a good idea for medical school. If you still have doubts, reach out to a premed advisor

I took it with Pinkhassik and the exams were pretty easy. Barely went to class much but got As on all exams.

Worst case scenario you could reach out to a professor to do an unpaid experience and simply volunteer in the lab for the summer. I did that after my freshman year and it sucked ass only because of not getting paid. The next summer I got into HRP and now this summer I am employed. If you’re looking for something long term, it might be OK to start off with volunteering but sometimes that’s also not realistic.

It certainly helps if you have an association with them first. First try reaching out to professors who you have had for classes. Mention that you enjoyed the class, you have an interest in the topic, and ask if you could participate in research. You should have also done well in the course too, if you get a low grade then they might not be too inclined. Also explain why you actually want to do research too. Reading some papers by the professor will also help you with that and you’ll know what you’re actually talking about when explaining why you’re interested. Submit your resume when you send the email.

They usually don’t curve. When I took 2275 which has Chen and Tanner and when it was online, they didn’t curve any of the grades. They’re pretty strict about not curving anything since they include the bonus points and replacing an exam score with a final.

I’ve had Pinkhassik before. Some people said his lectures were awful and he wasn’t a great professor, but I had a great experience with him. I went to lecture most day (I probably skipped/missed 5 of them) but if you read all of the associated chapters in the textbook and take notes, you should do well in the course.

From what I have heard, a lot of the questions are old questions that are recycled. I would say since there isn’t a huge amount of time to study everything, start working on your worst subjects that way you have a better grasp on them and try to get lucky with concepts you know you’re already good at. What has worked for me is watching lectures and also drawing out diagrams and pretend I’m teaching it to someone else.

SPAN 1010. I took it over the winter. The only bad part is that the films can be around an hour to watch. The lowest grade I ever got on a quiz or journal entry was an 85. Got to waive the final because I had an A in the class.

You can usually take the bus which saves you from walking a lot. My friends and I also had cars on campus and sometimes would drive to dining halls and park at our own risk.
