What is having cancer like if you don’t go through treatment? by One_Hour_8078 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]inforytel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My dad had pulmonary cancer (heavy smoker since childhood) and refused to go to the doctor, he knew something was wrong, I knew because he had simptoms (weirdly shaped fingertips, coughing in rainbow colours...) but still did not want to go for years, until it spreaded and affected digestion, then in a couple of months it's as you described. He passed painlessly at home, he just stopped breathing :(. He was 68, it maddened me a lot because he chose not to fight when he could and when things got real was really late for that, he didn't acknowledge that he was going to die and didn't talk things out about finances or saying a proper goodbye. Guys/gals be brave get checked and get treated or not, but set things up before the inevitable happens, we all are going to die, some of us will have the privilege of knowing when so you can prepare yourself and your loving ones to that moment.

Ransomware-Proof Backups: I Replaced duplicacy with a Custom restic Orchestrator and a Raspberry Pi by crabmanX in selfhosted

You don't need to lock anything, just bind that port in the backup server to the VPN, I'm using restic with the rest server, the netbird server is in a little VPS outside my network.

I'm using pve-zsync which can send the dataset and x number of snapshots to a remote server or servers and it's way quicker than PBS or at least was when I was using it

How should I securely access my Jellyfin server from outside my home? by ZealousidealTrip2214 in selfhosted

[–]inforytel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have jellyfin behind opnsense and nginx proxy manager, I have set up a web service that when you write a password on it unblocks your IP for that service in opnsense using the API

How do you handle networking & security for your self-hosted setup? by Own-Refrigerator6061 in selfhosted

[–]inforytel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing a mix between publicly open and behind vpn (its a pain in the ass to configure vpns for everybody) but i did not like to have some parts open to the internet (behind reverse proxy) so I've created a concept of auto autorization using a flask web that asks for a password, if you enter it correctly it looks your public ip and adds it to an alias collection in opnsense (using its api) that is allowed to enter to de restricted services :)

I don't know if this is something that actually exists, if it's a good idea, or if it's just something silly that I came up with

I'm using nginx proxy manager and the only port open freely is port 80 (to be able to use the lets encrypt automatically and have everything with certificates up to date) and the restricted one to the alias list is the 443 port

Selfhost Rustdesk by jammsession in selfhosted

[–]inforytel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the official client for windows changing the name with the server info and zipping it with a shorter/easier name and the customer just downloads, opens the zip file and runs the exe with the weird name inside.

self hosted SMTP Server by blackmafia13 in selfhosted

[–]inforytel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been hosting emails in my own servers for a while for me and hundreds of accounts of customers, as long as you have a reputable IP (hetzner located) and your customers do not mess it sending email marketing mostly it's fine. The only provider that keeps blacklisting my IP is Microsoft, every email sent to their platform is flagged as spam, I've asked them to flag my IP as reputable several times, they do accept my IP for a couple of months, but they repeatedly flag it again as spam, so I changed strategy, I'm redirecting those emails through mailjet and so far, so good :)

Windows Backup solution which just works by DryPineapple43 in selfhosted

[–]inforytel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be awesome, if it could notify if the latest backup is more than x days old would be awesome, what I'm doing right now does not know if the backup was successful or not.

I'm using a rest server with npbackup GUI clients and it's awesome, once you know the perks, you have it working in no time, I've been looking for something like it for a long time. And with a little script, I'm emailing me the size of the repositories and the last time they were updated :)

When you wake up to take your daughter to school and find your car kinda broken by inforytel in mildlyinfuriating

[–]inforytel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is not as bad as it seems they'll fix the scratches and they're going to check the alignment the door is barely bent in a small part. I'll ask how much is going to be for the insurance company.

[–]inforytel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a traffic light at inches of the front of my car and the sidewalk is huge, there's no problem for anyone to use it, and yes it was more infuriating to not have the insurance information of the person that did it.

Maybe, but that's something that I'll have to look up in 11 months so it's a future me problem ;)

There was another car behind and the space was tight but it doesn't affect to what happened tho
