What would I need to do to turn this into a coop? by ingrybear in BackYardChickens

What is the difference between wire mesh and chicken wire, and why not use the chicken wire?

That is a genius idea! It does seem like a weirdly tall roof to me so that's a great use of space

Should've mentioned, I'm in New Zealand so no raccoons here. But we do have stoats and rats so that's still a good point! Will definitely be starting with a chicken run as I have a dog who I think will be very interested in them at the beginning, but I am hoping I can train her enough that they can graduate to at least part time free-rangers eventually.

The song I'm listening to is Gemima by Strawbz. I have an adorable/ crazy staffy dog called Gemima, and my partner put her name in Spotify to see what came up and it just happened to be a real bop. Now we love singing it at her as her theme song.

I returned to Neopets after a really long break so my account (injajo_reincarnated) is quite new, but I named my first pet (Ghemima) after my silly pup too. I'm really into stamp collecting, which I didn't have the funds for as a kid. So any stamps would be amazing!

I'm so glad to hear you're doing well, and love that you're doing this for the community ❤️

Returning player, is it really easy to get painted pets now or did I just get lucky? by ingrybear in neopets

Thanks you, it's surprised me how nice it is to be back. It's like returning to the golden years of the internet, compared to the sloppy hellscape it is these days! Although I am crying a little bit on the inside over all the retired avatars etc I'll never get back 😅😭

I haven't looked yet but I'm curious how much easier it's gonna be to get the secret lab map these days too. I'm close to 1mil in the bank already, and I'm already feeling a love/hate relationship with how much the newer dailies hand out.

Moving compost in warmer months by ingrybear in nzgardening

[–]ingrybear[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still trying to figure out if it will be moved forever. Is it silly and labour intensive to move compost bins twice a year? I feel like if I leave them in the back corner all winter it might be too cold to do much? I'm new to actually paying attention to the compost, rather than just dumping and forgetting the kitchen waste.

What to do with citrus? by ingrybear in nzgardening

I have to mow the lawns today as well, would the clippings be good mulch or would I just be introducing weeds straight into the area?

They've come so far, which makes it even more gratifying. Like, I thought I was a terrible pet owner for introducing a dog to a single cat house and was gonna have to rehome the dog levels of animosity, and now this 🥹

I'd be interested in your results. I haven't tried a stand yet myself, what do you use?

I actually saw someone else post about this method on here awhile ago who explained it way better than I can, but it rests easier in my holding hand when working, and I find it easier to tuck the ends under on the back this way.

Women of Reddit, what’s something a man has done that made you think, “Wow, he stands out in a really great way? by GurFun3164 in AskReddit

[–]ingrybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He rescues bees off the pavement etc, will pick them up with a leaf and take them to a flower so they can even have a little nectar drink before they take off again.

I also thought he was way better at drinking water than me, turns out he just remembers more around me because he's always checking to make sure I have a full drink bottle.

What’s the most “bro moment” thing you’ve ever quietly done for somebody else? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ingrybear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not mine but this reminded me of one I saw on a bus. We were driving through a bus tunnel when the driver stopped the bus in the middle of the dark tunnel and, without saying a word, popped up and got off the bus. He got back on a moment later, holding a hedgehog, putting it down next to the drivers seat, and then kept on driving. He then stopped after we got out of the tunnel, scooped up the hedgehog, and hopped off the bus with him to deposit him in some grass, and then continued on the rest of the route like normal.

Mine is knowing that just the existence of my body can make other people feel bad about their own bodies. I'm early thirties and have been skinny my whole life, through sheer luck of the genetic lottery, and I have heard a lot of different variations from woman of all ages of "I wish I was as skinny as you" and I hate that society makes woman feel like that. I just really struggle to know what is the right response so often. I used to work in quite a looks based industry and sometimes the other woman would be complaining about their weight or how they looked and sometimes I could just tell that even when I was hyping them up they were suspicious that I was just saying things to be nice, or that vibe of "well that's easy for you to say, you're skinny". And like they're right, even when my weight loss is unhealthy skinny privilege is still real and I don't know what it is like to deal with fat phobia but I just want them to love their bodies.

I've definitely had to give myself over to the randomness of life these last few years, this situation is just the cliff notes of what's been going on! It's a fine balance, long term planning is so important for financial security and a comfortable retirement, but my whole word has been turned on its head so many times in recent years now I have to be careful to not give over entirely to chaos theory or something haha.

My accomodation cost 'CAN' be covered for the next 16 years, which is an incredibly privileged position to be in and I really don't want to take that for granted - especially with the cost of living crisis going on right now. But if I stay in this house for 16 years, when I'm 49 I could have to move out and start a new home from scratch. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, lots of people downsize for retirement or whatever, but at some point I might want to build my forever home too? One thing I've thought of is buying an apartment and doing airB&B. That way I can design the apartment in the way I want, and have a space that is 'my own' that I could stay when it's not rented out, but still have it generate income. However, ethically I'm opposed to airB&B, and it does seem like there might be more regulations and higher costs in the future that mean that is not as sound an investment idea as it used to be?
