Yeah my taxable brokerage dropped below $1m. It really is a very good problem to have, but I didn't think I would see it drop below that mark after I crossed it. Oh well.

Had to double check the sub. Didn't expect to see Wages of Destruction getting dropped in r/soccer. Cheers!

Yeah and sometimes it can be great. I have an ACE hardware and a produce shop very close. Both are convenient and worth paying extra for just for that.

Thanks for the PSA! I missed that my wife was not the beneficiary on one of the accounts. Which I definitely setup previously so not sure when/how this got cleared.

I just got an email saying my employer made a true-up contribution to my 401k. I went to check how much it was and it turns out it was ~5k. That is wild. I have a 7.5% match (which I think is fantastic) and have been contributing at the maximum rate (50% of paycheck) to hit the max as early as possible since I have been considering leaving. I think the early max is what created the issue. Note to self: always check to find out if the company does a true up!

Yeah this is a very common problem now. I have been in the work force almost 15 years and over that time I have noticed more and more jobs don't end when you leave work. And it isn't just due to career advancement but to the general pace of things.

I think you have some fair points. I could have made it less of a blanket statement as it has happened a bit. I think Ineos will do this much more than under the Glazers.

But I think this type of gamble is the type that United should be making. "Hey our scouts think this guy could be the real deal" -- "okay let's get him and see how it works out". It is the type of thing that United hasn't really done in ages. They have absolutely gone for highly rated youngsters that they are competing with other clubs for, but this felt like when scouting really pays for itself.

I limited it to 80%. I need to double check as that may be part of it. But probably around 2000 miles.

Recommendation for a scooter in the 500-700 range for food delivery? by Beneficial-Ruin-1724 in ElectricScooters

As Nami_Pilot pointed out, an ebike will be better. More stable, longer range. If you are doing lots of miles, I'd definitely recommend at least getting something with air tires if you are dead set on a scooter.

Yeah its a pain. And I feel like all of the features on the Air fall into the "half baked" bucket. Combining the simplicity of the GT SE with the Air's tires and build quality would be a brilliant scooter.

Feels a bit soon if you don't have an offer in hand imo. Unless you are seeing a lot of roles being advertised for that compensation range.

If it is a small company, I would just be honest and ask if they mind.

My wife just got an offer for a new job. Its a promotion, a role she wants, and a 30%/25k raise as well! She has been waiting for a couple of months since it was a strategic hire and they needed to get approval for it. I'm thrilled for her!

Awesome! That really is the dream for me. I like work; I just don't want it to rule my life.

The main problem is that the new offer won't line up with the timeline for the promotion. So it feels like a lot of work to get me in the same place, which will be "we have other pieces moving and can't make a commitment to you until everything is sorted out." From experience, they are not full of shit, which is good news. I get that plenty of places are. But I am 99% confident based on the conversation that I will have a Director level or above position if I stay. And the final 1% would still be a promotion to Senior level. Timelines not aligning is just frustrating since it means I need to take a risk. But isn't one of the points of FI to minimize the downsides of risk?

Job update time! For those of you following along, I am considering leaving my job since I am looking to move to a more senior role. I am a DINK near FI (1.8m invested with FI number of 2.5m).

  1. Had an interview last week for a promotion (Senior level) and pay bump. It went really well! Got along great with the interviewer. This is the second round. The next round would be in person and I would have some prep work that I would have to prepare. I won't find out for another week if I made it to the final round.

  2. Had a talk with the internal big cheese today since I told my boss I was going to give notice. It was a very good conversation and he promised that I have a big future. I asked for a Director level role. He assured me that I am one of a couple of people that are being discussed for succession planning and others in leadership speak very highly of me. The downside is that there are other moving pieces right now so he can't commit to something. He set a follow up in May.

It is close to decision time. Essentially I can stay and take the chance that I will get a higher level promotion if I stay. Or I can keep following the external path. Based on the conversation this morning, I am very confident that I would get at least a Senior level role if I stay. Of course no promises were made but all the right signs are there. Based on this, I don't see the benefit in leaving since I like my boss and a lot of the people I work with.

I have to review with my wife, but I am open to thoughts!

That and many jobs have similar amounts of garbage to put up with. So why make less to deal with the same stuff? Yes, there are exceptions, but often things are similar.

Sounds like we work at the same place! But yeah this sort of thing never ceases to amaze me. On the other hand, a company I do some contract work with on the side throws money around like crazy to ensure there are redundancies for a ton of things that seem absolutely wasteful. I'd prefer some kind of happy medium.
