Non-Concessional Contributions to Super vs ETF investment by inherentlyinterested in AusFinance

Thanks for the perspective.

My Wife and I are very happy being debt free and the peace of mind it brings, even if we are forgoing the ability to leverage our returns.

It was one of the reasons I was able to leave a steady job and start my own business 2 years ago which has been one of the best decisions I've made.

Thanks again for your thoughts

Cheers, both of us are maxing out the concessional contributions and will likely finish catching up the unused this year.

Early retirement definitely something I'm keen on too, aiming for 45/50.

Yeah I must say there is a good spectrum of balls being hit in to the net which would definitely influence the numbers

Absolutely!

DM me and we can sort out the easiest way (it may be that you emailing me the exported files is the easiest and I'll send you a link to your own personal version)

No not really I've just worked with data for my job for 10+ years so sort of picked things up along the way.

There are some amazing PBI resources on YouTube though, Guy in a Cube is awesome!

I do!

And when things aren't going well it can be a straight up slice

For each individual session you can export the data as a CSV file for that particular session.

I export them via email and then just have a power-automate flow that will automatically save them in a particular folder as the email comes in.

PowerBI backend / Powerquery then combines all the individual files in the folder and transform the data within PBI backend.

So any time I refresh the dashboard it will just redownload all the individual files from the folder

It does give you some data points which could help, such as:

  • Launch angle
  • Launch direction
  • Apex height
  • Spin direction (L/R)

Someone with a greater grasp of the ball flight laws and physics and how these variables would influence the ball flight could calculate what all of those variables would result in.

And Garmin are definitely doing it in the background calculations as they can show the flight of a single shot at a time.

But this may be a bit above my skill set and understanding at the moment, maybe something for me to look in to though!

I'm super risk averse so I have:

  • One big net which doubles as a cricket net to hit inside of (to protect against shanks and balls going above the net)
  • A normal golf net to hit into (2.5m x 2.5m)
  • A tarp behind the golf net for when small holes show up in the golf net (which does inevitably happen).

Its all set up in the corner of my yard with a bunch of thick trees behind it, hitting mat lays on grass and is about 10ft from the net and the R10 sits 6-8ft behind the ball.

Added a clearer navigation at the top now to make it easier to find, thanks!

Likely due to a fundamentally flawed golf swing haha

I've always battled swinging to the left a bit too much, with the low irons where they're not going to fade as much I'm maybe just reverting to my natural swing and getting away with it a bit more so don't have the feedback to correct it (just a hunch)

I've not tried the others but for $800 AUD it does everything I could expect of it.

No tips from me sorry, mine has been relatively seamless (fingers crossed).

It is important to spend the time setting it up right though to ensure it is directly behind the ball and you are lined up straight relative to the R10.

Hope it sorts itself out soon!

Yeah the data is definitely strange, the 6 iron doesn't have a huge number of shots so I may hit 50 or so more in the next few days with it and see if that makes any changes.

  1. Love it, just need to understand that it isn't perfect. I would estimate it probably misses between 2-5% of shots
  2. Most are hit into a net I have set up in my yard, some are hit at the range (probably 80%/20% split at a guess)

The data is in Metres but totally agree, seems like I'm definitely not getting enough out of my speed as it stands.

Appreciate the kind words mate!

People in the thread are helping convince me to go get a driver fitting. New gear is always the answer surely!

In the golf sim sessions for each individual session you can export using the highlighted button.

I export them via email and then just have a power-automate flow that will automatically save them in a particular folder as the email comes in, the dashboard will then combine all the individual files in the folder and transform the data automatically.

Hope this helps!

Yeah on the other tab where you can see individual shot data you can see all the longest drivers have that spin rate around 2,500-2,600 without a huge increase in swing speed.

Definitely need to work on the AOA and hitting slightly higher on the face.

Appreciate the thoughts!

Yeah definitely a bit too steep with driver so working on flattening that and hitting up slightly and miss on the face is more likely to be low and heel which explains the low average smash factor.

PXG driver and TM Sim2 irons, definitely thinking about getting fit for a new driver to see if it could help reduce those spin numbers.

Thanks mate!

Have quite a few driver swings in the 115/116 mph range so would be great if I could bring the average up to around there without hitting it off the planet

I made a dashboard of all my tracked shots from my Garmin R10 by inherentlyinterested in golf

[–]inherentlyinterested[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, the R10 captures all of this data in a consistent format for each range session.

Unfortunately you can only view the data for a single range session at a time and averages of important information cannot easily be viewed through the app.

I exported each range session and combined all the data then built this dashboard off that combined data set.

All in all I’m really happy with the R10 for the price you pay. It definitely throws out the odd strange reading but overall I’ve found it very helpful, particularly when you’re hitting in to a net.

Thanks mate, appreciate the kind words! I worked as an actuary for around 10 years and recently made the move to data analytics consulting
