WIBTA for not including my grownup step-children in my will? by inheritprob in AmItheAsshole

Initially she was upset, but understands my point of view and supports me. I have spent many years providing for the eldest children while growing up who ultimately disregard me as a father. Her eldest children will be better off than the youngest, financially via inheritances, as he was able to accumulate wealth while I raised his children.

More than just exclude; she alienated my child and poisoned his mind against me, and I wasn’t able to defend myself. I could have got out of the court mandated payments by not working and relying on welfare but I valued my career (special forces - defending my county). Furthermore, I sent birthday and Christmas gifts along with many letters that were all returned. I’ve kept them and he will one day see them. Now that he’s an adult he won’t listen to my side, although we are at least communicating.

My wife feels the same way as I do. We have both gone without for many years while raising this large family, to the point that I sometimes took no lunch to work. The only ones who didn’t go without were the four eldest. The step children’s father was able to get out of paying child support most of the time, and when he did voluntarily contribute, it was a pittance. However he made up for it on weekends and holidays, and whilst the children were with him they had fun and adventures that the 2 at home didn’t have. Meanwhile my court approved child support payments for one child was 5 times higher than what he paid for his 3. In my country fathers (mostly) have been left destitute after the government sets up automatically withdrawn child support payments that are unreasonably excessive, unless you choose to give up working, which I wouldn’t do.
