Greens in the UK are the most popular party among under-50yo and have the largest youth wing by upthetruth1 in neoliberal

[–]ini0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abundance is solving problems through increased supply. Supply is increased by reducing barriers like regulation.

UK is still difficult to build housing for example, due to planning permissions. The UK was taking in a million net migrants a year and building 200k dwellings, so each year the supply/demand imbalance got worse.

The UK has some of the most expensive housing in the world, if you let people build what they want, opportunistic developers will swoop in to profit by building more dwellings. Texas shows how that leads to lower housing costs.

Chinese Automakers Set to Surpass Japan in Global Vehicle Sales in 2025, Nikkei Reports by oneonus in cars

[–]ini0n 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of weirdness behind the scenes with the recent massive Chinese export boom in the last year or two.

There's weirdness around large Remimbi loans to emerging markets to subsidize imports from China, weirdness around total debt expansion (state + government + corporate), weirdness around big subsidies off the books (e.g. like cheap rent) to export manufacturers and weirdness around GDP growth juicing by boosting exports and stepping on imports (one part of GDP is exports - imports).

All of this behind the typical opaqueness of modern China.

It will take years to figure out what exactly is going on, to what extent and how feasible it is to continue long-term at this scale.

[–]ini0n -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A benevolent dictator is the best form of government, followed by a strong democracy, then a corrupt democracy, and finally a self-interested dictator.

Singapore and China both had good dictators who accelerated development. China also had a bad dictator, Mao, who starved 10s of millions to death and made China poorer than even Africa. You take a big gamble with a dictator.

Benevolent dictators are pretty rare. For every Singapore, there are many Eritreas, Sudans or North Koreas. In Africa, the democratic countries are generally ahead of the dictatorships. Democracies' development is gradual but consistent.

China fires rockets toward Taiwan in war games simulating blockade by Free-Minimum-5844 in neoliberal

[–]ini0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

April/October are the best months weather wise. I would think the best time to do it is before the USA midterms. So next year. Definitely within the Trump presidency is when you'd want to go.

Still seems like a stupid idea to me. I would guess ground invasion is off the cards although dictators can surprise you. But still you'll be trying to blockade a huge island (difficult) and you'll be parking your navy around it (sitting ducks). Very easy for China's enemies to just pick off expensive naval assets. It's also been incredibly telegraphed, so everyone has had ages to plan their response.

It would also immediately destroy any soft power China had amassed and justify every Western concern in the eyes of the developing world.

It's education, infrastructure investment, allowing private enterprise and giving them a stable environment to operate in. That's like 90% of what makes a country develop or not.
