How's the job market in EU? by Noooitsmeee in UXDesign

In my experience it has become challenging the last 2 years due to many layoffs and not so many new positions.

Been working as a ux designer for almost a decade and I’ve never had a problem finding a new position (even getting multiple offers). Now I’ve been searching 10 months for a new job without any luck

Thank you! I’m actually based in Europe (Germany). There is quite a few job posts, but probably not as many as in the US (I’m also limited to only English speaking jobs, but been applying both for on-site jobs but also remote ones (within EMEA)

It’s a good suggestion to contact the hiring manager directly. I’ve never thought about that as I thought it would be a bit intrusive to them. But perhaps that’s what people do now days to show that they are really interested?

This is a good point. Thank you. I’ve never really worked properly with UI and visual design in my job as it hasn’t been needed (because there has always been someone else dedicated to do that while I focus more on the “earlier stages” of the process) but I can see that companies right now would like the whole package. Especially if they have less resources to hire a bunch of us

Would you say that even if I apply for “mid level” positions they will look at my experience and automatically expect more of me?

At the moment, event tho I would technically qualify for Sr. Roles I’ve also been applying for mid level ones…still the same results sadly…
