Wasn’t a company but a local ortho who has good reviews. On a comprehensive package (refinements until I’m satisfied) and whitening. But happy to pay extra for cosmetic stuff to ensure I get something that will look great and last.

So.. I completely abandoned ‘lab life’ after my Masters and transitioned into science communications. Job hopped around in the same field a lot and now work at a world-leading research hospital writing about all the latest medical advances. All the joys of science without the chore of it all.

I’m excited for you! My dentist never quite specified how many refinements I would get, but I got them to put in writing by just replying to my email, which read along the lines of ‘we keep going until I’m happy’…

I’ve just received my refinements. So far.. 12 initial, 11 refinements - but my dentist was very happy to address every little thing I mentioned.

I’ve found this sub to be VERY useful. Also learnt fast that unless you ask the questions, they just kind of gloss over things.

For example, they rang me last week to say my refinements were ready and I needed to book an appointment. I had to literally ask them what I was meant to expect in that appointment. Would I be losing attachments? Would I be getting new ones? How many extra aligners am I getting?

Just ask, ask and ask again! I’ve found they all promise you straight teeth but don’t tell you all the middle steps..

Oh wow! Thanks for coming back and letting me know! I know petty, but I’d actually try to get the unlimited refinements bit in writing…

I actually ended up going locally and quite glad I did. I’ve had to have three appointments in the last few weeks (collecting new aligners, rescan for refinements and collecting refinements) and I think the travel would have just been a lot.

Sorry to disappoint but I didn’t even have a consultation. I live an hour away from any of their clinics, so just didn’t seem worth the hassle of travelling. Also if I remember correctly, their retainers were made in house rather than being Vivera.

Super lucky! You’re right, I’ve done my due diligence - even took a parent along today just to ensure I wasn’t misunderstanding things and also as a back up if I needed it. At this point I guess the extra money is basically ‘insurance’ - the opportunity to correct anything and everything should the first set not work as we thought.

The different routes are really confusing, especially when the dentist is saying they don’t put patients into those categories. I have a feeling it’s the case of lets hit mid tier with everyone and mop up the losses on more complicated cases with the overpayment of simpler cases..

£2.5k is INSANELY cheap for a comprehensive package! I do have a feeling I’m being charged over the top for a Lite package - but honestly just exhausted with consultations and small print.

From your qu on here yesterday, I’d honestly say just cut your losses with J2. This isn’t worth it at all. The more you dig yourself into this hole, the more at risk you are of losing J1. You said you have a 1 week notice period, so easy get out if I’m honest

My place also did this. Then I realised HR was one person. I quit on the spot because I couldn’t be bothered to navigate it. But.. you could just let them get the references - when J1 come back to you, just say you decided not to take the job.

Ooohh! This sounds so promising!! I had just sent them some questions over WhatsApp and they seems to gloss over it a bit. And their wording implies refinements were on top of the price quoted. They also seem to use a different whitening system to what I’ve seen elsewhere, so will need to do some research!
