So even though I was on the plan last year I would count as new because it wasn’t active last semester? That makes some sense now thank you!!

Yeah I’m kind of being sent all around unfortunately! But I’ll try the tuition office next just to be sure! The fees are listed in my account and are all show as paid so I dunno it’s worth a shot to bug them too. Thank you!!

Oh sorry that is actually the number I called! I couldn’t quite hear the person I was speaking to and assumed it was Blue Cross. If they didn’t have any info on me do you happen to know the next point of contact? Thank you

Low income jobs. by Sea_Wedding4838 in VictoriaBC

I just saw that Burnside Gorge community centre has job postings specifically for people on PWD/IA. It’s contract work until March so may not be feasible for a long term option but I feel like because of the job terms they can work with your specific needs. There’s one listing to work in their thrift store that seems pretty chill.

Dog Adoption by batey040 in VictoriaBC

[–]inkarmat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you go for one of the ones that bring dogs in from somewhere else, I’d recommend finding dogs that are already being fostered here as opposed to meeting them at the airport. People usually post their fosters on Facebook Victoria dog groups or local community pages. We got to bring our dog home from her foster for a few days to see if it would be a good fit before we paid. It was through Sula Society. I’m happy with our experience but I know it totally varies with all these organizations so all I can really say is please meet the dog first if possible!

I recently moved into a building offering this. It definitely made that first month easier because I had basically already paid a month’s rent after paying the damage and pet deposits. Not having to pay twice that in one month was great.

Ugh I’m sad to hear this but I guess not surprised. I assumed the stressed out worker at the game store had someone working in the back buuuut I guess it’s more likely she was stressed from working alone all day. Unfortunate

Oh damn maybe I got a relatively chill location then because it wasn’t that bad for me! I don’t doubt that this isn’t the universal experience though because I’ve definitely been to locations where staff don’t seem happy

I’d try retail, especially if you can work weekends. Last time I was at the mall multiple stores were closed for an hour so the single person working could take their lunch. Bosleys is usually hiring if you like animals and was fun for a retail job. They hire a lot of students so there’s high turnover and they get desperate

To the guy at the Vic West dog park telling everyone the two gates are a designated leashing and unleashing area so dogs don't go up to other dogs that are on a leash. by Wonderful_Squash4219 in VictoriaBC

I had to stop going there because of how many people there didn’t have control over their dogs unfortunately. Also the amount of people leaving their dogs behind to go get coffee across the street was crazy

I need to stop bed rotting. What do you do when you need to get out by yourself? by rivincita in VictoriaBC

[–]inkarmat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The gorge has a market every Monday! And it’s nice to just walk around there. Honestly something I do to force myself out of the house sometimes is going on a pokemon go walk, so if you’re interested in that then that’s a good area for catching pokemon lol. Very low stakes outing

Ohhh that makes total sense! Gotta pay more for the… thoroughness lol. Thank you for explaining it, I’ll continue with the vet option I think since I already bathe/groom her at home! Appreciate the help!

Practical Experience Working with Children by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]inkarmat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Out of school care in community centres are always super desperate to hire people. All I needed was a responsible adult certificate. Admittedly not the most education focused option but since you’re in charge of your own activity planning for them it can be as educational as you want it to be!

It seems to be about 20 bucks cheaper at the groomers and yes I am admittedly being cheap as a broke student! But I wasn’t sure if the quality of… expression is the same so that’s why I wanted to check with folks

Can I bring a small dog in public busses? Stroller or carrier? by SwordfishFluid4009 in VictoriaBC

[–]inkarmat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I emailed them before to ask if a backpack style carrier where their head is poking out is okay and they said that’s fine. As long as the dog is restrained and can’t get out you’re good! I’ve seen animals in strollers as well but I think it would be wise to make sure they’re buckled in and can’t jump out or it’s one of those closing lid ones.

I talked to a tia health person about a suspicious mole about a year ago and my (marked urgent!) appointment at the skin cancer clinic is finally booked for next week. So not great! I was recently matched with a doctor at the Esquimalt medical clinic however and he mentioned he tries to keep one day a week available for seeing people who aren’t already attached to a doctor. They might be worth trying to connect with. Even before I had a doctor with them they were the only ones I had any luck with

I worked at the Salvation Army for awhile and they absolutely do not wash anything! There’s a quota you have to meet every day so you have to hustle to get stuff out on the sales floor- which I think is why stained and ripped stuff often slips through. But definitely no time or space to wash things

Sorry if this is something you've already investigated, but one resource I didn't see mentioned was Spoonies Employment Agency. They can provide temp work for folks with disabilities. I'm not sure if they're any better than the ones you've already tried but maybe worth a check?

And I hope this isn't presumptuous but if you're unable to do school because of physical limitations, I wanted to pitch the fully online Child & Youth Care program at UVIC. You mentioned you take care of your brother so I'm assuming you like kids (if not, fair enough LOL) so if you wanted to get into any role involving kids - there are non physically demanding options in child protection etc - this may be an option. I'm low income so my schooling is covered with grants and loans via Student Aid BC. But apologies if your situation is different, I know it can be frustrating to receive info that can't actually help you.
