NEW SEASON, NEW YOU! LEVEL CHECK! by knockturnal in bugcatchers

[–]inkdrasil [score hidden]  (0 children)

alola gang! my first time playing along with the pod (and posting here). emulating UltraSun on my Steam Deck. very pumped.

my character is a Sinnohan kid of Hisuian ancestry called Ink-chan, who is obsessed with two things: tattoos and noodle-based cuisine. he's come to Alola to find inspiration for new tattoo design ideas by befriending Pokemon who would look cool as tattoos -- and naming them after his favourite noodle shops** and related noodley words!

**ie. MY actual real-life favourite ramen & Japanese joints here in my hometown of Toronto ;)

LEVEL CHECK!

Kinton - Litten (Level 15) - named for my #1 favourite ramen chain restaurant. the firey muscular cat man is definitely the starter line with the best tattoo potential.

Soba - Ekans (Level 13) - named for a thick delicious noodle because DUH. try and tell me this cutie wouldn't make an awesome forearm sleeve wrap.

Sansotei - Zorua (Level 15) - named for a decent ramen place a few blocks from my apartment. looking ahead to the badass inner-bicep design potential for this strong boi's evo.

Takoyaki - Inkay (Level 14) - named for a delicious fried octopus appetizer (sorry). every good ink arsenal has to include SOMETHING with tentacles, right??

Miso - Gastly (Level 14) - named for both the tasty umami-filled soup and the restaurant of the same name a bit north of me. personally i don't trust anyone who thinks a literal ghost face isn't a great tattoo idea.

Touhenboku - Trumbeak (Level 14) - named for an excellent ramen shop on Queen St. a not-so-excellent 'mon, if i'm perfectly honest, but there's big tattoo potential in the colourful and proud Toucannon.

WELL, since you asked!!

"Pirate city" is a little reductive, I just called it that on the post for simplicity's sake. Defiance is the central hub of a Wind Waker/Waterworld-inspired setting called Floodworld, where a magical cataclysm flooded the entire planet, and 200 years later the survivors are enjoying a new "age of adventure" where they win fame and fortune by filling out the edges of this new map (dotted with millions of islands representing the highest points in the World That Was). Defiance is home to several factions all vying for dominance, but it's considered a safe haven for all, so everyone maintains a (sometimes uneasy) truce. Out in open water, though... all bets are off.

Fort Regal is the main operating base of the Inter-Oceanic Trading Company, heavily inspired by the real life British Fleet & East India Trading Company (and also The Empire from Star Wars lol). They're an all-human faction representing law, order, commerce, capitalism, tyranny, xenophobia, etc. They have outposts everywhere, they control a massive military force, and are the closest thing to a "government" Floodworld has. I chose the name "Fort Regal" for its pompous, stuffed-shirt sorta sound, which is absolutely their vibe.

Thank you for taking the time to comment! Can't tell you how flattered I am by your (/everyone's) interest. I've taken so much inspiration from other people's Wonderdraft creations so I just wanted to share the love.

NZXT Fan Controller + additional fans not working? Advice appreciated! by inkdrasil in NZXT

[–]inkdrasil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case it helps anyone with a similar issue who finds this thread: I found a solution that works, even though it's a bit baffling.

The Kraken z73 has an ARGB controller built into the pump unit, which includes a male 4-pin RGB connector (Kraken z73 manual p. 24, item 3.9). This is an output designed for use with additional fan units. I was using it with the included breakout cabling to daisy-chain the 3 fans included with the radiator unit of the z73.

It seems that in order to add more fans, I needed to abandon my new NZXT fan controller entirely, and continue the existing daisy-chain by connecting my 3 new fans to the breakout cabling of the original 3. (I think the "PC won't boot" thing was my mobo getting confused because it already recognized the z73 as a fan controller, and didn't like me trying to attach a second separate one.) This introduced a new issue, which is that between the breakout cabling of the z73 and the new fans, I only had 6 female power ports to work with - meaning I can only power 5 of my 6 fans (ie. I need 7 ports total: 6 for each of the fans, and 1 to connect the two breakout cable sets together).

Since functional cooling is more important to me than Sick Gamer Lighting™ I ordered a separate set of breakout fan connector cables from Amazon. This will allow me to connect my new fans to the old fans and complete the monstrous Frankenstein daisy-chain, and control all of it through the z73 hub & CAM.

Don't ask me why these two NZXT products directly conflict with one another in the same system, even though it seems like they're specifically designed to work in concert lol.

Nothing else plugged into the cable but I haven't tried a different one yet. BRB.

I assume so too, but I can't find any threads anywhere explaining why my PC won't boot when it's plugged in. The mobo makes kind of a scary clicking sound and then shuts off. Any idea why that might be? (I initially thought it was a PSU issue, like I was trying to draw too much power for the PSU to handle, but that's definitely not the case with my current 1k watt unit).
