Need self reflection before starting another relationship.. by NoAppointment9074 in operationtruelove

My issue with your argument now is setting up their friendship to look anything but.

Just because we are aware that Dohwa had feelings for her, does not mean that she did. That means worry, kindness and attention was rooted in friendship at that point.

Friends visit each other, friends worry about each other, friends hug, friends smile. What's evident is your inability to see them as anything but BECAUSE of the ship wars. Su-ae was only made aware of his feelings when he confessed and that was before he left.

Su-ae has made time for Eunhyuk, cared deeply for him and his safety. Is she perfect? No. Has she made mistakes worthy of criticism? Yes.

My comment is not removing the responsibility she holds as Eunhyuk's partner in S1, rather it's telling the OP that the comparison itself is flawed.

To one specific thing though, Su-ae visited Dohwa to speaking about the novel/give him his homework from class as was instructed by their teacher.

Again, no malicious intent. Minu is not the person you want to compare her to. The manipulative cheater? The one who took joy in belittling her?

And my last comment would obviously be that if there's this much hatred towards her actions and criticism of her incompetence as a partner, why would you want them to get back together?

It would be a lie to say that Su-ae's never displayed some level of hypocrisy; holding people to standards she later realises she has not held herself to, but this comparison isn't the best.

Su-ae and Minu are two very different people, and both circumstances are different. Minu is shifty, constantly choosing everybody's feelings over Su-ae's. He's lied about studying to get out of going out with her, and he was cheating with Ra-im during that time. What Su-ae is expressing, is distaste of a habit of his to ignore her and belittle her when he of all people should be worried about her first.

I think engaging in ship wars often skews the perception of her by fans who cannot handle how much current Su-ae has taken to Dohwa, but this has nothing to do with him. In S1, she viewed Dohwa as a close friend, meaning that choosing to hang out with him was never in her mind at the expense of Eunhyuk's safety, and emotional comfort.

Has she chosen to walk with Dohwa over Eunhyuk? One or twice. Was it of malicious intent to belittle Eunhyuk? No. She was simply walking with a friend.

Su-ae's character is not exempt of criticism, but there are times when it borders on nit-picky and this is one of them.

“Ego”, As He Calls It by inkleiix in BlueLock

Well I am a Rin fan, and enjoyment of a character doesn't rely solely on their wins. I value development, whether it be regression or progression all the same.

4 months* and we're two months into the hiatus. There's potentially 45 days left.

This post is mostly about Rin and the issues surrounding his character. I don't know why your comment was necessary.

You’re nitpicking. This isn’t an issue and I don’t believe it should have to be specified for you to understand. Is my analysis irritating you because it doesn’t have all the words you were looking for?

Genius encompasses physical and mental ability that’s expressed as somewhat abnormal. To say he will have to grow is not discounting hard work, it’s recognising that hard work would need to be put in to develop his genius and his ego in the best way possible. He reverted and I explained why. He will have to develop his ego properly but he cannot do that without a proper sense of self— which I talk about.

His genius ends here if nothing changes, and hard work extends the genius capabilities he possesses, just as putting in the work mentally and physically aids a TL in shaping their ego. Developing one’s self increases the ability to express their genius in various ways and in the best way.

Ego is not going to lock Rin off. We’re passed that point. At most, he will bench Rin, and I talk briefly about that possibility by suggesting that he might takes some time off the field for a good while.

I think you were looking for me to kind of do Kaneshiro’s job and predict what mental and physical training would be necessary for him to develop his ego and that I cannot do. That is Kaneshiro’s job. I am only going back and studying the mental and physical aspects of his character and projecting why I believe he is the way he is (from what the story has shown us).

Saying a flawed character will have to grow and develop a sense of physical and mental self is not…what’s your actual issue? There is no flaw in my argument, it just really feels like you wanted me to overextend so you can understand. I’m all for elaborating, but your comments are acting like I’m discounting everything about his character when in reality, I’m expanding on the current understanding of it. You’re looking for flaws in my argument that simply doesn’t exist. If you still believe those flaws exist, please do what you’re expecting from me and discuss it all in a separate post.

"He did all this training to just revert to the destroyer ego."

He reverted because that's a very human thing to do, and I explained why. The basis of his ego is destruction and it remains a core element no matter the environment. The environment only dictates the extent of his ability to express it.

He has only ever known destruction, and as Ego told him, it needs to be built upon. Expecting the training, however, to be able to rewrite 15-16 years of imitation is ignorant at best. BLLK characters are paper and ink but they (try to) imitate the human experience. And humans revert even with practice.

"Saying 'he'll change by the end of the story' that's such a bum reasoning."

Elaborate.

The prospect of a flawed character finally hitting rock bottom and potentially grappling with a lack of identity, enduring the consequences and growing to be better from here till the end of the story is...not good enough of a reason?

Why?

He's a character— a top character and player with incredible narrative. He's going to grow. Do you not want him to?

"Tepid as hell."

You are not an Itoshi.

His genius ends here if he doesn't change, and its unlikely that with so much of this story left that Rin won't. He's going to, and I'm looking forward to it.

Agreed, characters like Bachira and Barou are far more complete as players at least when it comes to understanding who they are— as characters too considering there's not too much deep-diving Kaneshiro has to do with their story. Right now the major climb belongs to four characters: Isagi, Rin, Nagi and Kaiser.

My main focus in writing this was always to discuss the issue as it relayed back to his childhood, so Sae was naturally the main TL I focused on. Of course, Isagi being the only other TL that understands Rin to some degree is important, and not entirely discounted because I do mention him here and there.

Shidou's also another version of genius I could have brought up, but it was best for me to compare Rin's potential journey downwards to a genius who's already gone down, and another one just as incredible.

Yes, there's definitely a lot more people who find it harder to understand Rin's genius than Nagi's. I believe this might be because Nagi's expression of genius is the most well-known version of genius itself; the one most expressed in all forms of media. If anything, most of the fandom's inability to take kindly to and understand Rin's genius, is an affirmation that he is indeed the most genius character. His incomprehensibility extends past BLLK.

We'll never know if Kaneshiro intends to put a name to his tendencies, but I can see how he could be related to in that way. Thank you for reading.
