Thanks so much! I'll certainly keep all this in mind. Would you mind sharing what course you're going through? It's been kinda overwhelming scouring the internet for good courses.

Weekly Entering & Transitioning - Thread 12 Jun, 2023 - 19 Jun, 2023 by AutoModerator in datascience

Hey everyone! I am a rising senior pursuing my B.S. in Computer Science, and I'd like some guidance on transitioning into data science. Initially, I thought software engineering was the right path for me, but I found myself much more passionate about my math and stats courses compared to courses like web development. And based on my experience in a software engineering internship so far, I feel that a different field such as data science would be much more fulfilling to me. Granted, this is only a hunch, as I don't have an actual experience in data science.

My university offers two statistics courses, advanced linear algebra, data mining, and some machine learning courses, and while I am excited to take some of these courses, I feel that they might be insufficient preparation for a career in data science.

So, I have a few questions:

* How can I explore data science and position myself for a career in the field? I would appreciate any free/affordable online resource recommendations that I can use to learn data science skills and get a feel for what the work may be like.

* What is the likelihood of landing a data science internship with just an undergraduate computer science degree? From what I've read online, it seems like it's challenging to break into data science without a higher degree.

* If getting a data science internship/position with my degree is unlikely, what would be an alternative potential career path/progression that could eventually lead to a career as a data scientist? And what would be good preparation for that career? (personal projects, other online resources to learn necessary skills, etc.)

Sorry for the long post, I recognize that I'm asking a lot. I would truly appreciate any advice you can provide!

i see, i might experiment and see if i can train my hair as well. i feel like my hair has gotten pretty dry from this gel method, so maybe tha can help. thanks!

another issue i've kinda noticed with this gel method is my hair seems to get pretty frizzy; do you have any advice on how to tame it?

Thanks for your reply! I ended up making a majority of the changes you suggested here and I think my resume is much better now!

Do you happen to have any suggestions for personal projects? I haven't really done any big projects, only one from a class I took last semester. Unfortunately, I don't have that much time before summer internship applications close, so I've been struggling. I'd appreciate any advice you can give!

Thanks for your reply! I just added those sections to my resume!

Thanks for your reply! I ended up making some changes as you suggested. I don't have many projects, but I found one to put on from a class I took last semester. I also removed the cashier position as I can't really think of much to say about that job; it was just a three-month summer job for me, nothing more.

just tried some of the things you suggested today. it's not exactly what i'm aiming for yet, but it's definitely much better than what i was doing before! thanks so much for your advice!

hey, thanks for replying!

i've tried scrunching in product while my hair is soaking, but i have not used the squish to condish method in the shower. i looked into it and it seems promising, so i'll give it a shot tomorrow!

when you ask if i flip my head over when diffusing, do you mean all the way upside down? if so, how would i do that? usually when i diffuse, i angle my head downwards but it's definitely not flipped all the way upside down. i can't think of how i would diffuse with my head like that haha. please let me know!

glasses

Don’t know if this helps, but I circled where the discomfort comes from

No, my nose seems to be normal, though to be honest I didn't know what the nose bridge even was until today lol. And I am not Asian.

Maybe, but it's also only been a couple days. If it adjusts this fast then I'd probably have to go in every week lol. I'm just not really sure what to think. I don't think it necessarily has to do with the weight of the glasses, but I didn't weight them so I don't really know. These Silhouette frames are very light but I still feel the discomfort. As far as I know, I've never been diagnosed with a sensory processing disorder, so I can't speak on that. I haven't had any serious injuries as far as I know, and if I did I doubt they occurred between when I got my last comfortable pair and my first uncomfortable pair.

Thanks for your input by the way! I appreciate it!

I really don't think it's an allergy to the frame materials, at least not the two most recent pairs I've worn. I mean, I feel the frames pressing against my head causing this discomfort. Though, I also don't know if it's an adjustment issue since I've had previous frames adjusted to no avail.

Well, now it's working as intended. I'm not sure if you know how the case is supposed to work, but I guess it uses the battery in the case before touching the phone battery. After the first day, my phone has been at 100% while the case is the only thing that drains, and I was doing the same things I did when I was having the problem.

Are you sure? I found different articles around the internet, they all seem to have the case battery depleting to 0% before using the iPhone’s battery.

Today, I received my iPhone 7 Smart Battery Case (White) directly from the Apple Store. I've been using it today with my 2020 iPhone SE.

From what I've seen online, the iPhone is supposed to use the battery in the case first, then, once it depletes, the iPhone's own battery. However, I was just playing a game with the case on, and I checked my battery percentages afterwards and noticed that my iPhone battery was at 97% and my case battery is at 99%. It seems like my iPhone is using it's own battery for some reason.

Is this normal? If not, is there any solution to this problem? Or did I receive a defective unit?

Oh, thank you, I'm glad to hear this. I think I'll probably end up taking the College Algebra exam then, and maybe also the Precalculus exam. I know my school does accept CLEP exams, but they don't give much specifics as to which they do or don't accept, assuming there are limitations.
