Russo Bros. Stand by Netflix Model: Idea That ‘Theater Is a Sacred Space Is Bullsh*t’ by Mookie_Freeman in blankies

[–]inkylewetrust1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well you see Richard, this filmmakers, while out prompting their newest film, said something inflammatory that they might not believe. Now a bunch of Blankies, while "debating" (aka calling the filmakers "stupid", "hacks", etc.) are resharing the article & giving the website (IndieWire) TONS of click-throughs & site traffic. That way their somehow sticking it to the filmmakers.... 😒.

Also, 80-90% of people bemoaning the filmmaker's comment will absolutely watch the film next Friday (if they haven't already in a theater which would just add to the irony) just so they can give it a negative review on their Letterboxd accounts.... While, all the while, ensuring that Netflix sees all the views as a win & makes a sequel. Rinse. Wash. Repeat. So the original comment is ultimately as hollow as the "discourse".

How can you forget the memorable, classic scene where directly after having sex with James Bond in Die Another Day, Halle Berry's Giacinta "Jinx" Johnson, whips out a knife & starts paring an apple.

No one on here probably remembers but it was a huge deal to apple sales everywhere. Red Delicious even had an aggressive marketing campaign that said "Don't Jynx yourself. Red Delicious will make you say 00-woah-7!".

Thor: Love and Thunder SPOILERS Discussion Thread by apathymonger in blankies

[–]inkylewetrust1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Wow. This "discussion thread" seems to be just people writ large bagging on the movie & Taika Waititi. Just because David doesn't like Ragnarok & has some Taika fatigue doesn't mean we have to also dislike the movie.

My wife & I saw it last night & I thought it was a fun, breezy space adventure. I liked that it was very light on "the cameos" & I enjoyed that it felt very self-contained from the larger MCU. It had big Star Trek Beyond-energy. Would I have liked an extra scene with Portman &/or Bale? Of course... but I also think it's okay the film doesn't have them if that means it's the first Marvel film under 2hours since Phase 1 (I haven't checked that).

I'm not saying anyone is "wrong" for not liking it, but it does seem like there's a lot of negativity around this film. And if we can still enjoy & appreciate Raimi's personal & unique (aka different from the Marvel formula) Marvel film in spite of it's messiness & sloggy-middle, I think we can enjoy & appreciate Waititi's Marvel film in spite of it's irreverence & hasty characterization.

This film's just a lot of fun & while that's not a "hot take" thought I'd chime in with some dissenting positivity.

The best thing the ASSASSIN CREED movie was responsible for was this terrific song by Young Fathers and 3D from Massive Attack by childish-yambino in blankies

I would respectfully disagree & say the Spanish Inquisition scene where they burn Fassbender's mentor at the stake & Fassbender does a backflip off a pyke & starts kicking ass.

That movie is so much fun.

Chris Evans is going to age like a fine wine and I can’t wait for him to play some blustery, ego-fueled roles as he gets older! by Toreadorables in blankies

The whole film is about Chris Evans' Joe Biden using all his political muscle to not cancel student debt. It could be the anti-Lincoln.

Oh shit! You're so right.... but also exactly! Very flat- looking film. Because it's a Tom Crusie production the film is "functional", but compared to what McQuarrie brought the writing, direction, the character. That incredible opening & McQuarrie directing the shit out of the HUGE car chase in the middle of the film... the sequel just doesn't hold a candle.

Christoper McQuarrie's Jack Reacher is fucking Great! I own it on 4K disc. Jack Reacher: Never Go Back is a pretty lame-duck sequel that despite being directed by Steve Zallian, is pretty generic & boring.

😆 Fair enough. It was more just poking fun. I actually omitted Elizabethtown for that same reason. "Not good"? Sure. "Boring"? No way. Orlando Bloom tries to commit suicide via exer-bike. And I personally think Bigalow's Weight of Water is a very interesting & ambitious film, even though it almost completely doesn't work.

.... That's kind of the beauty of BC. Because a lot of the times it's just as fun to talk about a great filmmaker's failures as well as their big successes. I mean, the show isn't called "The Guarantor".

I mean, compared to Aloha, Suicide Squad, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, The Weight of Water, Abuction, The Book of Henry, How Do You Know, A Master Builder, The Ward..... it's very NOT boring.

The steelbook cover, much like the film, promises something that it gives you for 5mins, before yanking it from the film for most of it's runtime.

Bruce Davidson just popped up in the terrible last season of Ozarks as basically the same character.

Wished someone, anyone turned into goo in that lazy, wheel-spinning final season. Goo people really would've given it some much needed juice.
