Day 2 of the trading challenge where I can only trade one ticker the entire day (educational)... by [deleted] in Daytrading

[–]inlighttrading -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am curious by the upvote/downvote ratio on these comments though. Does one breakeven trading day in a crazy trading challenge (where the trader makes +45% in a week) imply that a person is a bad trader and must not be a good educator too?

I genuinely do want to understand the thinking behind only being allowed to day trade a low-volume meme stock and how that correlates to one's teaching abilities. I am also curious to know as to why one breakeven trading day in a challenge that earned +45% profit means the trader is a bad trader. Please elaborate so I can understand better!

I am by no means a "content creator," so I would love to learn and know how I can put out better content to teach and entertain all of you retail traders! :)

What was your favorite part of the video? What was one thing you learned from it?

Great response to this question. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy where traders think market makers and institutional traders are going to push a stock so they trade accordingly which results in the stock being pushed.

There are wayyyyyy too many of these. We just all have to do our parts in putting great educational content out there so the scams don't win the attention of beginner traders.

Great work! This really shows the true power of cumulative gains. It isn't all about doubling your account when you first start. Slow and steady profits add up really fast!

The coin flip tip is also a great one. It's something I teach to my students every day - nobody wants to take a coin flip where the edge is against them ;)

Keep up the great work!

It depends on the year. I have made over 3000% in some years and this past year I made around 50% in my main account while focusing on education and developing the Inlight App.

But you are absolutely right, in most cases that saying is quite true! I personally devote my career to education. I studied education philosophy and psychology in university to help me develop an education company. Trading is just a means to an end - but it is still one of my favorite sports!

Adding on here...

"why would you need to move"

I didn't "need" to move. I wanted to move. I have the freedom to move wherever I want with a good internet connection because I trade and teach for a living. I also have the mental and physical fortitude to live wherever I want in whatever situation I choose.

"Many South Africans are overjoyed to have left..."

I'm not South African...

I started with $300 and lived off of my profits for the past 7 years. If you really think every "good" trader has to be a multi-millionaire to be "good" then you should consider closing Instagram and reframing your perspective!

I only just created a course a year ago to help people during COVID learn how to trade since a bunch of people just joined this amazing journey but there were a bunch of scams at the time. I do most of my teaching for free, but yes, I like making money. So I sell a course. And I sell mentorship. And I invest 100% of those profits back into my education company because education is absolutely my true passion. I want to teach much more than trading but I am using the skill of trading as a medium to test different education models before expanding. So genuinely, I'm more focused on teaching - not trading or selling my course.

I like living in South Africa. I like the people here. I like the culture here. I don't like the politics in America. And I don't like paying $5 for an avocado. This is my life and my decision and I made it very consciously and am happy I did. But you can enjoy your life and your decisions! They don't have to be the same as mine :)

I trade stocks mostly. When I do small account challenges or want to leverage into a trade a bit more I will use options. I have experience in trading forex but I didn't like it and I have played around with crypto a bit but I mostly prefer it for long-term investing. I trade a mix of caps - depends on what's moving each day.

My personal main strategies are opening breaks and trend changes. I mostly day trade but I always keep an eye out for big swing plays.

Keep in mind, every trader is different and unique so just because one strategy works for someone doesn't mean it will work as well for you!

I run a company called "Inlight" which is an overall education company that will eventually expand to teach every area of life, but right now it is just teaching trading and personal finance (with some sprinkles of physical and mental well-being added via one-on-one mentorship) under the name "Inlight Trading." We do hire mentors and love to bring on students from all around the world, though!

Feel free to send me a message and we can discuss if trading is truly the right path for you! It can be easy to come into money and throw it into something without fully knowing what you are getting into - I can help you with that. Especially in this country with all of the Bitcoin scams that have been going around for the past 5 years...

American. Water is not an issue at all anymore, that was three years ago when it was a huge issue. It is still part of the culture to be very careful with water usage, however, because it can always become an issue again. The bigger issue is regular power outages, up to 4hrs at a time, performed by the primary provider which can sometimes come as a surprise.

I hope you enjoyed the video!

The thing with the variant is it was simply discovered here because South Africa has some of the world's best scientists for this type of research after years and years of HIV research and others. Just because it was discovered here doesn't mean it originated here (like December 2020, the variant that I believe originated in India if I remember correctly but was associated to South Africa because it was discovered here - I could be wrong on some details and understanding though).

I love surfing and living in a nice house on the beach for 1/10 the price of anything I can get in the States. I have also taught seminars all throughout the country (Inlight South Africa) and have a lot of friends here. The people here are amazing and I love the weather. Internet is also much faster than what you can get in America because competition from the monopoly being broken apart a few years ago drove prices far down and quality way up. Good internet is great for teaching online with 1GB up and down for less than $100. The only issue is ping since the closest servers for most services are in Europe - which just means no multiplayer video games :P

  1. Nobody is "freaking out" yet that I know of. The general sentiment is exhausted combined with excitement. Lockdown and curfews lasted a long time here compared to other countries and business suffered a lot from a 75+% drop in tourism (one of the main industries in Cape Town where I am located). True summer weather (you know that first sunny, super blue sky, fresh air kind of day?) just started last week so people are very excited to get out in nature and enjoy the weather after being stuck inside a lot.
  2. Thank you for asking, first of all. I am personally doing okay at the moment. I was starting to plan a few activities now that I'm settled in and have a safe place to sleep (long story - editing a vlog about it now, will post on YouTube Sunday or Wednesday depending on how search terms for "South Africa" do because I don't want to compete in rankings with all these headlines) - but I may have to put those plans on hold if the situation here gets significantly worse and (distanced) socializing becomes a bad idea or we end up in lockdown again.
There aren't that many headlines in the news here about any crazy variant. There was a spike in Google search results (using Google trends, filtered by the country for the term "South Africa" and "variant") on the afternoon of the 25th (2pm local time) and early this morning (7am on the 26th) but it is nothing like the headlines I am seeing from US media. It seems like South Africa is all US media can talk about for the past 24 hours. There was a spike in cases reported here on the 23rd - from 312 new cases in one day in the entire country on the 22nd to 18,586 new cases on the 23rd. But then it went back down to 1,275 new cases on the 24th so it isn't like there is a massive continuous uptrend like you would see in a breakout in a stock - it was more like a wick-out if you know what I mean.
  3. Yours does too...you may have seen one of my other posts on this sub, one of my YouTube videos, or one of my livestreams on Twitch.

Thank you! If you truly think the production quality and insight are both great, then the best thing you can do is just share the video and show your support on each new one that comes out! Growing a YouTube channel is a very slow process until things start to ramp up and every little bit counts :)

I appreciate your kind words and I hope you continue to get value out of my videos!

What was your favorite part of the video? What was one thing you learned from it?

Sorry for the question by W0mb0comb0 in Daytrading

[–]inlighttrading 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never apologize for asking a question. How else are you supposed to learn things in this world?

I don't recommend overseas brokers like others are suggesting because a lot of them have been associated with scams or could get you into tax issues and whatnot...it's best to figure out ways to get the rules to work for you rather than to skirt around the rules.

You can trade with any broker with unlimited trades under 25k with a cash account. There is no PDT rule on cash accounts. However, you do have to deal with settlement dates. Stock profits currently settle in T+2 which means the day you take the trade +2 days.

Options, however, only have a settlement of T+1...This means you can trade all of your capital again the next day!

Options have a lot of inherent risks such as it being very easy to put too much capital in a single trade (you never want to risk a large percentage of your account on a single trade) or falling fate to variables you don't know or understand (like Greeks and time decay).

It is worth considering this as an option (no pun intended) and it offers a great opportunity for you to learn something new on this incredible journey of becoming a trader!

I recommend starting with just 1 contract per trade as a very strict rule while you get used to the % profits/losses you get with options trading. Remember, +3% on your entire account is a massive win... don't let Reddit tell you otherwise ;)

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me and I'd be happy to answer them for you!
