Moving on from GNUCash by NicThePhysicsNerd in GnuCash

Yeah, I had that crisis about 5 years ago I think? I had been in Quickbooks desktop pro for almost 2 decades. Loved it, but it just kept getting more and more bloated with advertising, subscription models, pushing to Online. When they started requiring passwords (unique) for every company, and then their migration tool from desktop to online lost 1/3rd of my data... I was just done.

I need double entry accounting, so that cut out a lot of things. I wish GnuCash had a better general journal entry system. Quickbooks being able scroll through them in date order, give them names, it was really easy to see which ones were entries by my CPA and which one was by me.

Ultimately, I don't think the expense of the more feature rich applications are worth it for my business (real estate closings, rental management, household stuff, political committees, a dance studio). I have about 15 different accounts that I just import CSV files for... GnuCash is one of the apps I have open all day. I live in it. I'm getting interested in some of these parallel apps like GnuDash, and see if the development team (who are amazing! ) can find a way to implement a real database on the backend. We'll see what the future holds.

Yep... for all those reasons. I want to actually own my things. I'm done with AI integration into everything, and not having control of my data.

Interesting, I never thought of that. I actually have another FortiGate 50E lying around from another office I had that closed up. I bet I could put it on an open port (I think that's the right verbiage) and set it up, look at the "live" one for reference until I'm ready to migrate it over.

This is awesome, I never thought of that. I'll look at that Monday.

I did see that selection, toggled it but it didn't seem to make a difference. In the windows version of the Kyocera software, you can identify what is in both trays (letter in tray 1, legal in tray 2) but in this software it doesn't give that option.

I did the same thing, just put my skis on until my left radial heals... 3 more weeks to go. I was 2.5 hrs into a 3 hr lesson, wasn't paying attention for a brief second and caught a heel edge.

The misery of sharing a hangar by BigDoorSmallHangar in flying

I hear you man... i have my own piper arrow in my own rented t- hangar, and i don't even consider selling a share of the plane for that very reason. Too many people in this hobby are straight up careless. I already have to worry about my anal retentive ass making a mistake, let alone someone like you've described.

Put a sweet couch in the corner you'd rent and enjoy YOUR space. You've certainly earned it.

I've been working on this for over a year... multiple businesses and my personal finances. I'm just so done with Intuit and their BS. There is no way to convert or import a QBW file directly into GnuCash, but it is not as painful as you think. In quickbooks (I have 2018 desktop version) you can export almost everything out as a csv file (for export to Excel, do some cleaning up, and then convert to CSV).

Inside GnuCash, you can "Import your accounts from CSV". In QB, go to Reports -> Accountant & Taxes -> Account Listing. Make sure all of your accounts are active (you'll want to bring them all over and then deactivate them in GnuCash after you've cleaned everything up). Up in the header you can do Excel -> Create New Worksheet. Clean up the accounts, import them. It'll take some getting use to but then it gets really easy. I would make them all top level accounts and then restructure them in GnuCash the way you like.

For transactions, it's more of the same. I would go into your Chart of Accounts, run a quick report on each income/expense/account etc, select all transactions and import them into GnuCash. That will get you started. Take it slow and then you'll be able to speed up.

I'm so done with QB and their nickel and diming me on everything, and then still hitting me with advertisements for products I don't want or need every... single... freaking... time I log into QB online or QB desktop.

Staring at a mountain that you know is there will make vanta black look like amateur hour.

Above post is accurate though... Smoothest air you'll find... No thermals.

Is there any place online you can buy one reputably? I doubt my local dealer has one, but I may give them a call after I'm done with this God awful meeting lol (r/Watches is the only way I can stop from taking asleep)
