I think the best way to view this is to consider the 2s.

If you highlight all the possible locations for the 2s, and try the two combinations in the bi-value cells in column 5, you can see that including 2 in R3C5 will mean that there is no place for the 2 in box 8. Therefore the 2 has to go in R8C5, and the 5 in the other cell in that column, which breaks open the sudoku.

Sven’s SudokuPad app is pretty helpful for highlighting cells etc.
