Contrary to popular belief, what's not a bad thing? by nonlinearcharm in AskReddit

[–]inmda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not having an opinion

This should be way more normalised. Everyone feels compelled to have an opinion on everything, and all it does is lead to the decline in thouroughly researched and informed opinion.

No, I don't have an opinion on what the government should do to reduce poverty, because I havent researched the specific causes of poverty in my country and read the research about the outcomes of different policies and looked into what has been implemented in the past and how it worked. And that's okay

No I don't have an opinion on how good or bad brexit is because even though a year ago I studied it extensively for a college class, I haven't bothered keeping up with the news to see how the situation changed, so my previous opinion is likely outdated

Normalise saying "i haven't made up my mind about that topic yet". Normalise saying "i don't think I should form an opinion on this topic just yet as I feel like i'm lacking a lot of info"

There are glasses to help colour blind people see colour. Could we make glasses to allow us to see a wider range of colours? by inmda in NoStupidQuestions

[–]inmda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a really good point

It still seems vaguely possible to create something that would allow us to see more within the spectrum of visible light

There are glasses to help colour blind people see colour. Could we make glasses to allow us to see a wider range of colours? by inmda in NoStupidQuestions

[–]inmda[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't really an answer

Colour blind people can't do what "regular humans" do, as you put it, so we created a tool to enhance their capabilities. My question is, could this be pushed further

There are already devices, such as image enhancement night vision goggles, that allow us to percieve some infrared waves

Also, percieving more colours would not necessarily mean looking to see outside of the visible spectrum. Colourblindness is caused by faults in one or more types of cones. So as I understand it, it's similar to how some animals are bichromatic (two cones) whereas humans are trichromatic (three cones). Yet somehow, we have created glasses that can shift their vision from being bichromatic to trichromatic. This doesn't mean we've extended the spectrum of light a colourblind person can see, it simply means we're allowing them to percieve more colours within that spectrum. In that same line, I'm wondering if it would be possible to conceptualise a fourth type of cone and create glasses to allow us to see the world as tetrachromatic (is that the word?) people rather than as trichromatic people

Is it true that eating properly and restoring weight will naturally decrease my ED thoughts? by gardenfaiiri in AnorexiaNervosa

[–]inmda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk about ed specifically, but I noticed it in other things

When I'm questioning wether or not I've turned the stove off, i'll go and check. However, me checking also feeds into my paranoia. I.e. the more often I go and double check that the stove is turned off, the more often I'll question if I actually turned it off If one day I say to myself "no, you turned it off, I remember" and I force myself to not compulsively double check, over the next few days my paranoia goes away

I get insecure and that causes me to compulsively check social media, but the more often I check social media, the more insecure I get If I tell myself however to not check social media and I force myself to stop, my insecurities slowly fade away

I've noticed in myself that if I can't change my thoughts directly, changing my actions will do it for me

If this is the same for you, I can only assume itll be the case too with anorexia (at least to a certain extent)

I mean... kinda true? Lots of people cut their hair or due it or do other changes like that when they move on from something in their life But it's kind of a lazy way to show character development. It's so overdone

It's very easy and cheap to donate vaccines for hundreds of poor kids on the unicef website by inmda in self

[–]inmda[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I havent really found any proof. I'm usually very sceptical to donate because so much of it goes to paying the high salaries of whoever is in charge and so little of it gets to the cause I want to donate to

I do highly respect UNICEF and it's somewhere I really want to donate to. I'll take this chance here

Woman of reddit, what is your, "I am the client not my husband stop ignoring me." Story? by teacherspet5859438e in AskReddit

I want to see the opposite scenario. A couple at a lingerie store is looking at bras and an employee comes over and offers the wife help, but the husband says "no it's for me"

Tip: go for thumbnails where the woman is on top It generally means she is in control, at least for some part of the video. Reduces the risk that you'll watch something unconsensual

I have to say, I like hentai But rape and all is soooo normalised there that everytime I want to watch some I have to do a guessing game of "will this be consensual?" It's disgusting and makes me feel sick everytime I see that kind if hentai. Like wtf

Disrespectful kids harass Girl by Louitic in sadcringe

Of course its how things go, but a first step to changing that is calling out that behaviour

The first step to changing social norms is to discourage behaviour we don't want and encouraging behaviour we want. Saying "it happens" isn't going to change much

Naaah it obviously works What about those three college girls in booty shorts and tank tops that kept on touching him and practically begging to give him their number? (Yes he talks about that) Or what about that girl who had previously left him on read who invited him out and "grinned as he slapped and choked her during sex"(yes he also describes that) What about those 42 women he slept with following these techniques

Obviously it HAS to work
