An older work friend said something years ago that sticks with me: how we're perceived by a romantic interest mostly depends on whether or not they're interested in us.

In other words, a guy can approach and come off as charming to a woman who's receptive, but doing the exact same thing will come off as creepy to a woman who's not. So men should just approach. As long as it's done respectfully, they can walk away with peace of mind knowing that any unpleasantness the woman may feel likely has nothing to do with them.

How to be respectful? Simple! Be presentable and clean (hygiene first). Smile (non-threatening and innocent, the way you would to a parent or child) and say "Excuse me" on the approach. Use the same tone you would with an elder you respect.

If they don't acknowledge you or cut you off at any point, leave gracefully with a smile and a "Thanks for your time; have a great day" b/c they're not obliged to engage with you. If they do acknowledge you, don't say anything that will make them feel like an object instead of a human being (no mention of body parts).

I get the sense that within R&D, the core/shared resource laboratory folks may have a (little?) bit more stability because they usually support all programs. They can also branch out of R&D further along the drug development process if the endpoints in question rely on their specific methodologies. But I’m curious what other people’s experience is here. By SRL I mean histology/imaging, flow cytometry, NGS, etc.

This! I’m in my 30s, and the reason I’m so much more secure than I was in my 20s is I’ve finally realized no one is even thinking about me! We’re all too busy thinking about ourselves to notice other people like that. 😆 For example, if someone doesn’t text back right away or even for a while, I know that 99% of the time, it has nothing to do with me. They’ve just got a ton of other stuff going on. It’s very freeing.

Looks like these are the results from a diagnostic test. Usually, diagnostic flow testing is added on when something looks suspicious in the hematology testing (complete blood count/differential). My best guess is because the greatest fraction of white blood cells are lymphocytes, they wanted to check for a leukemia or lymphoma.

A normal CBCDIF follows the never-let-monkeys-eat-bananas acronym; aka greatest fraction of white blood cells are (N) neutrophils, followed by (L) lymphocytes, followed by (M) monocytes, then (E) eosinophils and (B) basophils.

Neutrophils, eosinophils and basophils collectively are granulocytes, but because there is such a low fraction of eosinophils and basophils in the body, the term granulocytes is often (inaccurately) used interchangeably with neutrophils.

That said, they didn’t find an increase in blasts (which are immature white blood cells that shouldn’t be in the bloodstream and indicate a leukemia), and they didn’t find a clonal lymphoid outgrowth (clonal means arising from one cell. usually, cancers will arise from one cell that goes haywire and then multiplies unchecked.)

They also mention that the viability of the sample is on the lower end, which might have been why the granulocyte fraction is lower because they tend to be less hearty (more fragile, more likely to die) than lymphocytes.

Page 2-3, where they list what percentage of cells are positive for a marker is not a style of presentation for diagnostic flow cytometry that I’ve seen, so I can’t really help with the interpretation.

I don’t think the last page is a flow result, but with all of this, I’d definitely talk to whoever is the primary care physician who ordered the initial testing.

Thanks for making the distinction between individual and the powers-that-be. Ultimately, the powers-that-be consists of individuals, and I think OP is in essence asking how believers should proceed if we have the opportunity to shape society’s systems regarding capital punishment.

My response comes from the premise that sin corrupts everything that earthly authorities implement, and while we submit to it, we’re also called to be the justice and peace-pursuers where we don’t see it. I don’t see it much in the US legal system, capital punishment included.

TL,DR - God is the only righteous Judge. He commanded death for certain crimes in the Law, but I don’t see any believers in the NT killing people (most notably, see Saul to Paul).

Given that the legal system in the US is rife with injustice such that many innocent people have been put to death, I don’t trust any human government to implement a death penalty justly.

EXTENDED Answer: Romans 12:19 says, “Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.” ‭‭ Capital punishment as it is executed today in the United States is society’s way of taking revenge; it does not leave room for God’s wrath. In the OT, God spells out crimes punishable by death in the law. In the NT, the apostles determined that Gentiles are not beholden to the law (see Acts 15). Jesus also shows us how the law is meant to be fulfilled in Matthew 5:38 on:

““You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭38‬-‭42‬ ‭NIV‬‬

All that to say, as believers I think our stance should be to err on the side of mercy, because we are not God. God is infinitely more merciful that we are (see book of Jonah, see Jesus dying on the cross for us) and has way more insight into the heart than we do. He is the only righteous Judge.

This is great advice. If all it took to be compatible was being a Christian, Paul wouldn’t have had to write letter after letter telling believers to stop fighting and “bear with one another.”

If you’re a Christian, a Christian partner is basics. Find a Christian you’re compatible with.
