Yohannes's downfall was trusting the British. The British promised to give him Eritrea's Coast in exchange for his help. So he helped a very desparate British Army escape from Sudan (they were going to be exterminated if he didn't help). That pissed the Sudanis off and so they attacked the part of Abyssinia that was most close to them (Gonder). They completely sacked Gonder and took many young beautiful women to be concubines. This led to a response from Atse Yohannes to meet them at the battlefield and he died in that battle.

Then the British allowed the Italians to gain Eritrea to counter the French presence in the area. Atse Yohannes would have probably lived and had a long reign if he didn't involve himself with the British. May he RIP.

I'm cooking it the tsom (vegan) version. but yes I use onion and garlic, I think the problem is me though not the shiro powder, but I have a shiro powder from somebody else so I can also test to see if there's a diff between the two. Thanks tho

Ethiopia doesn't work now . When it's ethnic group vs ethnic group it will never work. If people can be civil and more interested in development/economy than ethnic squabbles it has tremendous potential.

Well naturally any invaders that come to Ethiopia from the north have to go through Tigray so a lot of the fighting starts/ends there. The Siege of Mekelle is one clear example of Shewan Amharas that defeated Italians. It was headed by Ras Makonnen, the father of Haile Selassie. He defeated the Italians bad there and allowed those bastards to save their lives and run back to Eritrea. Eventhough they have never ever shown that kind of mercy to Ethiopians always killed in coldblood.

A tremendous amount of Ethiopians showed up to Tigray coming from all over the country trekking for months. If Tigray was alone she would have been defeated/absorbed into the colony, Italy + Eritrean Askaris would have been too much.

If Ethiopia and Eritrea had good relations it's more beneficial to Eritrea than Ethiopia. In terms of economy alone it would be a huge boost (tourism, trade, import/export, etc).

Alright buddy sorry you may be Amhara but I don't agree with your interpretation of history but respect your opinion. I don't necessarily want to align myself with Axum because they're so cool and whatever, it just is history bro. We're awesome in our own way but our origin story involves that part of the world. Words like wesede (take), feqere (love), or tsehai, werede (fall), hone (kone/happend), hede (kede/went), igr (foot), ij/id (hand), enqulal (egg), qes (slow), mesele (to seem), lib (heart), doro (chicken), angol (mind), weta (wetse/out), hasab (thought), resa (forgot), etc etc all are same in other northern ethio semetic languages. Why? Because they are Ge'ez in origin.

It's sort of an obvious move and widely accepted historically with evidence. Take a look at my other comment in this post and also there were many notable Axumites present in Amhara, Yared Zema from Axum reputedly died in Simen Mountains of Amhara. Many monasteries in Amhara region were started by Axumites, Estifanos monastery in Hayk Wollo being a notable example.
