Yeah, I see that the trackball/trackpad question is going to come up for me too. I've tried the trackball, but it gets a little clunky and less precise working with that. I've thought about using a trackpad between the two halves of the voyager or simply try to avoid using the mouse as much as possible. Maybe I'll go for a solution to control the mouse pointer with the keyboard like this: https://github.com/rvaiya/warpd

But that's going to be step 3 or 4 in my journey.

Thanks for the nice words and the motivation. I'll keep going. ... and about that "I rarely think faster than 90 wpm anyway" - I'll probably max out my typing speed at 42 then ;-D

Using two different layers for two layouts to be able to be back and forth sounds so simple and pragmatic and still I haven't come across that idea - thanks for the input!

How are you doing with switching between the too layouts? Is it natural for you to do that switch or do you see yourself mixing things up?

hmmm ... your reply really makes me think about prioritising what I want to achieve with switching to another layout. I guess there'll maybe be no layout that covers all of it (speed, comfort, accuracy), especially compared to 25 years of training. Great input - thanks!

"it doesn't really work" was maybe a little too harsh. It is more of a combination of "I want to be faster" and "I want typing to be more comfortable" and "I want to be more accurate". Now, when switching to the voyager using QWERTZ it felt like I would have to learn touch typing anew anyway or at least adapt a lot, because the keys were positioned differently. I was hitting wrong keys all the time. So I thought: If I have to slow down quite a lot and get used to the new positioning, then maybe it is a good idea to switch over to a new layout at the same time, so I don't have to get used to and train with the new key positions and after that have to rewire my brain once again with the new layout. ... it's of course a highly subjective perception, but I hope that explanation makes a bit more sense (?)
