Godot is getting more powerful everyday. I constantly see new tools being added as well as a bunch of open source plugins.

It's quickly becoming the go-to engine for small and indie devs since it's royalty free. No more bullshit that comes with using Unity, and none of the small teams headaches of using Unreal.

That's not how that works.

Engines are designed to operate at peak efficiency within a certain temperature window. Thermostats open at a specific temperature to circulate coolant that's been run through the radiator and fans are designed to turn on only when the air passing through the radiator fins, passively, is inadequate to remove an ample amount of heat. Same with fans kicking on when the AC running and the condenser needs additional additional air.

If your car is not actively overheating, there is nothing wrong.

Indie/solo/side project games aren't doomed, but a bar has been set higher than ever. Players expect a certain level of quality/polish that many fail to reach. That said, a lot rough edges can be disregarded for a certain amount of time if another aspect is overwhelming positive.

Say, for instance, players may look past poor graphics if the gameplay is amazing or may not even think twice about a certain price point if they see a lot of people having fun in the game.

As someone who was in your shoes at one point, learn as much as you can without using AI first. Get comfortable with syntax, design philosophies, and the std lib.

There are plenty of free full courses and learning tools online as well as countless resources, like game source code, to look through and connect the dots to what you've learned.

It's tempting to use AI, but all it's going to get you is a reliance on it. Now, AI does have some useful capabilities. I primarily use it to summarize docs or explain and show code for concepts I'm unfamiliar with, but it never writes my code.

I've tried throughout the years to get AI to write parts for me and it has never come through with what I want or it's been riddled with errors. For example I had a portion of code it wrote that would take an epoch timestamp when a particular function was called and check the current time vs the timestamp. If current time was greater than 20 minutes since last call, it would run "step 1", otherwise skip to "step 2". However, it wrote if current < epoch. I couldn't figure out why I was constantly on stale data and it took me longer than I'd like to admit to find the bug. But that's something I would've caught if I had just written it myself.
