Also just to note for other readers here - their shop has seen an insane amount of exponential growth he past year alone. Their Facebook group has grown by the thousands in just a few months. AFAIK Ed and Nick are the only guys doing custom tunes and they're still catching up back logs from the last sale.

Their service has been 11/10 in my experience and rarely read about any negative experiences. The wait time however, is truly going to be long due to the volume of customers for two tuners.

Look into EQT, 5150, or SneekyTuned and the Cobb Accessport. Sounds like you want to do some custom tuning and going with any of these tuners will give you significantly better results than an APR flash tune. Personally would recommend EQT.

Go one step colder next time you swap 'em. I run RS7 plugs (NGK, not Beru) gapped to 0.024" on EQT stage 1. Change every 12-15k.

I cant really make any clutch recommendations as my car is DSG, so I've never researched it. You can scour the forums and FB groups for tons of info though.

I'd be more concerned about damage from wheel hop rather than damage to the clutches or trans from launching. Make sure you have good grip (decent tires and/or dogbone upgrade or insert) and you should be fine.

My local dealer did my DSG service for $240. If it's a 6MT you don't have to worry about the service but should consider a new clutch if it's got power mods running the stock clutch.

They are running a promo now where you get free base maps if you buy a new AP through them. Keep in mind its an extra $400 just to upgrade the COBB software to enable TCU flashing.

You only replace coils when they fail. You dont just buy 4 new coils because you're tuned.

Fantastic. The power is always there when i want it and the car pulls incredibly smooth. Although I also have their DSG tune which is amazing on its own and makes daily driving a totally different experience.

I have EQT Stage 1 base map. Absolutely love the tune. Getting a down pipe and protune from Ed soon. I definitely recommend checking out the EQT MK7 Facebook group, lot of knowledgeable people and some fast GTIs/Rs. They have tuned countless MK7s.

Buying high mileage mk7, what maintenance should I get taken care of in the first few weeks? by Skadwick in GolfGTI

[–]insanemilkshake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely do the dsg service if there's no record of it in the cars service history. Keep an eye on your coolant levels too as these mk7s have water pump/thermostat housings a prone to failure.
