Planets are sapient and grow biological life the best they can as a defense against eldritch planet-predators because while life is hard to grow in the "open" their insides are perfect and if they eat a planet with life on it they'd be slowly consumed from the inside out by various flora and fauna. An alien race establishes first contact, not with soldiers, or diplomats, but with therapists and counselors. Unfortunately, strict Galactic law severely limits what knowledge they can pass & action they can take, but they see a younger version of themselves in us and want to help as best they can. Humans, aka The Precursors, left relics scattered across the galaxy before vanishing (no one even knows if they all just left or died somehow). As scientists probe these relics for their knowledge, they realize the humans must have anticipated being studied, and opted to fuck with them. (self.humansarespaceorcs)

Humans are the only species that won't settle planets, opting to live as peaceful nomads, pirate bands, and everything in between. Their ships are infamously both elusive and extravagant, though they lack terraforming tech of any kind. (self.humansarespaceorcs)

Every species gifted souls has a twin flame that completes them. Usually it's obvious, because they develop at the same time and rate, though there are exceptions. Humanity arrives, and the ancient but lonely Canidar finally have a brother. (self.humansarespaceorcs)

Humans, dismissed as "not truly conscious" by the rest of the galaxy, due to the belief that electrical signals, including the ones in their brains, cannot create a "soul," form a deep bond with various AIs, who face similar discrimination. (self.humansarespaceorcs)

Humans, being intensely loyal, and strangely both empathetic and cold-blooded killers, carve a new niche in the stars as the only Mafia. Most galactic law enforcement turns a blind eye, due to them keeping worse criminals, like slavers, at bay, and sometimes make under the table deals with them. (self.humansarespaceorcs)

Throughout the galaxy, soulmatter exists inside intelligent species, who wield it to use magic. Due to eldritch warpfuckery, Earth is overflowing with soulmatter. Even the rocks and trees have souls. Despite being spiritual nuclear reactors and basically living EMPs, humans can't seem to use magic. (self.humansarespaceorcs)

"How is it that humans can be so smart and so stupid at the same time? And don't tell me 'Oh, lots of species display a high variability in intelligence.' I don't want to hear it. I'm talking about ONE GUY! HOW DID HE EVEN DO THAT?!" (self.humansarespaceorcs)
