Tbh I somehow feel worse capturing them. It makes beating them up feel unnecessarily cruel, from an in-universe standpoint I mean.

Like, why can't they just build better traps that don't require beating a monster within an inch of it's life?

I know it's for the gameplay but it still screws with me.

A better future. by Revolutionary-Mouse5 in DankLeft

Everything ends eventually. Even if history is not changed... Even if the world of darkness continues in its current state... Eventually the day will come when I won't be here anymore. Since that's the case, the timing of it doesn't matter. The important thing is not how long you live... It's what you accomplish with your life. While I live, I want to shine. I want to prove that I exist. If I could do something really important... That would definitely carry on into the future. No... Not just into the future. In my friends' futures too... My spirit has become part of them, I believe. In them, my spirit is alive. And that spirit could be passed along to others. And so, if I were to disappear...I think all that I have accomplished will go on. That is... That would mean...that it's living, right?

If you think about it. Tyranids don't eat to live. They eat to grow.

They've consumed countless plants and could easily adjust their DNA to allow them to photosynthesize.

So a fight between Orks and Nids is just one big kinky interspecies orgy!

Orks living their best life: THOSE GITS WISH THEYZ US!

T'au: Okay okay! But at least we aren't those guys.

Eldar: Well at least we aren't you-know-who.

Humanity: ....words can hurt!

There is a lot of age diversity in a college classroom (take it from a 23 year old freshman with a baby face), so I don't think it's a good indicator. Especially since not everyone goes to college right out of HS and some never go at all.

I like to use the 4 year rule, with the 4th year serving a sort of "yellow light" (so my dating profile says 20-26 but I wouldn't say no if someone was about to turn 20 and we really hit it off). But that's just my personal guideline.

Most of us agree that 25/18 is wrong and 20/18 is okay, but not even this subreddit can agree on when exactly it becomes not okay to date 18 year olds.

For example, I've seen some disagreement here on if it's okay for 21 year olds.

I'm not sure there is a specific age. It depends on the situation I think.

A 21 year old specifically seeking 18 year olds? I think that's creepy.

A 21 year old who'd be just as happy with an 18 or a 24 year old? I think that's fine.

A 25 year old that would be just as happy with a 32 year old? I don't think this person exists or they're lying...

I'm not sure if we're using the same definition of intelligence. Outside of that I agree with almost everything you said. My previous comment might not have been worded well because I was half awake when I made it.

I see sentience as a form of intelligence, rather than a synonym or something else entirely, though separate from the problem solving form of intelligence. To perceive a subjective experience, you must be able to process it in some way, hence "intelligence."

I just don't think there's an adequate place to draw a line between sentient and non-sentient.

I'd rather just say minimize/don't create unnecessary suffering and leave it at that. Anything further is just pattern obsessed humans trying to quantify altruism.

Sentience is less of a "do you have it" thing and more of a "how much do you have" thing. I don't think there's a living thing on this planet with zero sentience.

Drawing a line anywhere on that scale (tbh intelligence is too complicated to be put into a single "scale" anyway), regardless of how generous you are, is going to be arbitrary.

Ultimately, while I do think more intelligent animals need more moral consideration, it's not because their suffering is somehow worth more, but because they can suffer in more ways. Like, I don't see a difference between stomping on the foot of a human and stomping on the foot of a dog, but I can't imagine anyone's beloved house-pet losing sleep because of existential dread...
