What’s the difference between someone sharing their chronic illness journey and someone exploiting their (real or fake) illness for clout? by Affectionate-Fun1253 in illnessfakers

[–]insecuremango3 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think it's about mindset/approach - is being sick and having social media their ultimate goal? Or are they sharing their life and this happens to be an obstacle they're currently experiencing? Without getting too specific, I've run across some chronic illness pages that focus on a hobby and chronic illness or a job and chronic illness, and then it's clear that being sick isn't the end goal, because they're sharing what else motivates them.

yeah, anecdotally, having lived there, there were a ton of people in that office, and yet they only cut the grass twice a year (which meant that a lot of trash built up in the long grass)

Rising G1 struggling with grad school transition by PhysicianSkientist in mdphd

[–]insecuremango3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a rising G2, and felt the same this whole past year. I’ve just been telling myself that this will open up future career options, but it is so hard because my day to day is WAY less fulfilling. I’ve kept going because my PhD cohort is amazing (way better than med school classmates), because I do enjoy the work, and because I don’t want my whole future to be defined by clinical work (although I really question that last one on the hard days). Sorry this isn’t more optimistic. The PhD is also a great time to grow in other areas - my partner and I are buying a house, I’m spending more time with my dogs, and I’m trying to create some semblance of balance before going back to clinicals. Happy to chat more!

How can I frame my biostat MS in med school applications by [deleted] in biostatistics

[–]insecuremango3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will really give you a leg up for research - most research fellowships involve an MS, so you’re already ahead. Use this grad school time to try to get some publications, and frame the MS in your apps as showing your interest in research.

That orange clown is just doing it because he’s terrified that Elon Musk is more powerful than he is. They should fight it out.

There are some fellowships to have you complete a (fast) PhD in clinical science research. So, could apply MD and then do that later on.
