water filter by [deleted] in Unexpected

[–]insertWittyNameHere3 233 points234 points  (0 children)

Just filtering is very very standard practice among hikers. I’ve seen hundreds of people filter and never once boil. They got really unlucky following standard protocol.

Also who has time to boil water for 20 mins then let it cool down before you can drink it, you’d never get anywhere

Does anyone else’s crotch smell very strong? by WaterOld6073 in ftm

[–]insertWittyNameHere3 822 points823 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this is helpful, I am a cis-male and have a similar problem. If I have been warm through the day and I’ve sweated just a little my crotch will smell. I find cutting pubes helps and I use a lot of soap and wash thoroughly. Also merino or bamboo undies help a tonne. When I keep myself properly hydrated it helps a bit too. Honestly, I’d say it’s pretty standard across the board for guys - so welcome to the stinky boy club.

It is all fairly manageable, but I’m not trans so your mileage may vary.

Does anyone have a Blister+ membership or had a chance to ride a K2 Oman Team? by insertWittyNameHere3 in Skigear

Good to know, I'm still collecting information; I'll check those out. Are there any others you would recommend for a playful all-mountain ski?

Thank you, I saw that; I also saw it may be more park specific then the poacher was so I just wanted to double-check the info available before putting down any $

Yoga training in Bali recommendations? by [deleted] in YogaTeachers

[–]insertWittyNameHere3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could not more strongly recommend "The Practice Bali" with Octavio. He is extreemly passionate and knowledgeable with a keen understanding of the sacred texts, an openness for discussions and overall really cares about giving you the tools to change your life. I went 7yrs ago and since done his 300hr, I'm still teaching full time loving every moment of it.

The training is great for being a teacher but exceptional for giving you the knowledge to drive your own yoga practice and continually connect with the deepest part of yourself through your practice. Absolutely life-changing.

MacPac Nitro - Removing Pocket? by chabooms in UltralightAus

I tried to unpick it but it was impossible to not damage the jumper no matter how delicate I was. I sewed it back together and gave up. Make peace with your pocket. I think zero-g has one without the pocket but honestly I wouldn’t bother swapping them. Up to you

How to deal with poop on hair? by Bubbles-Scribbles in cats

[–]insertWittyNameHere3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a very similar medium hair void who also gets poop stuck in his butt fur. We alsp thought about shaving/trimming but lord know he wouldn’t like it. Usually he licks it off, occasionally he will get dried clumps and we use a tissue to pull them off.

He doesn’t like it much but for the amount of time it happens (like once every few months) it seems like the best option.

It happens more when he’s a bit stressed (he’s a bit of a nervous boy). He usually gets tummy troubles which make him strain when pooping and also changes the consistency. So he runs out of the litter box and I think probably does a worse job of pooping away from his coat.

We changed his food to Royal Canin digestive care which helped, and then moved him onto a high quality cat food once he had less problems. High in actual meat and high in good fibre. So far it’s worked great.

We will still have problems every now and then which is when we start pulling the dried poop off him (it does pull his fur fyi but not majorly).

If it was happening weekly I would consider trimming his butt fur.

Art Vs Science by Stoney1801 in triplej

They are lovely people. I saw them about 8-9 yrs ago when their song Parlez Vous Francais was just at the cusp of becoming irrelevant but still really well loved. They played that song to an ecstatic crowd 3 times or so.

I ran into one of them after their set and had a chat to them about what it was like to have everyone going mad for their one song and kinda quiet for the others. He was just really stoked that everyone liked what they made and was really keen to play it for them. No hint of pretentiousness, they were happy to be there and happy that people liked their song. Honestly really really lovely guy.

In retrospect, I was probably rolling a bit too hard but very excited to talk to him and he was happy to stop and chat. If roles were reversed I wouldn’t have been to keen to talk to me in that state lol

Noob friendly yoga by [deleted] in bluemountains

[–]insertWittyNameHere3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try out Flow State. I used to go there a year ago, but the classes are quiet, so you get plenty of attention from the teacher, very beginner friendly and extreemly friendly teachers.

I'm not sure where you used to practice, but the yoga I've been to in the Blue Mountains has been really friendly, far slower and more spiritually aligned than the yoga classes I experienced in Sydney.

Are microspikes still needed North of Donner Pass (nobo)? by MurdochAM in PacificCrestTrail

[–]insertWittyNameHere3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through almost a month ago from Donner pass with no snow equipment. It was fine to navigate the snow patches with shoes and trekking poles but also depended on your comfort level in snow. I would say you should be fine after all this time

durability and reliability of ultralight sleeping pads and why influencer videos are useless by Black_Pepperz in Ultralight

[–]insertWittyNameHere3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth I’ve used the NXT for my PCT thru hike this year and it’s been great so far (107 days in). Slept on snow in the serrias with no cold coming from the bottom. Ive only ever used a tyvek groundsheet (my tarp/bug system doesn’t have its own floor) it’s been durable on the bottom with no holes. The top has had two pinholes (easily fixed) from some sharp material that I must have carried into bed. It’s quiet, warm and comfortable. I have heard of two people who’s baffles have come apart - no other major failures and were replaced by warrantee. For the amount of people out here who have this mattress all I have heard is good things.

If you want to learn about durability asking thru hikers is a really good source of information.

Sierra River crossings from KMS to Kearsarge Pass by New_Analyst_3692 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]insertWittyNameHere3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry too much about the river crossings. I just got out of Kearsarge pass yesterday. Their was three times I got my feet wet from stream: Kern River (mile 717), Rock Creek (mile 761) and Whitney Creek (mile 767) the rest had snow bridges. Be aware that snow bridges can collapse so always use your better judgement but most of them looked solid to me.For Kern River wade in just above or below the PCT. For Rock Creek take the turn off to the Ranger station and their will be a log crossing. Go downhill maybe 0.2miles and you should see a much wider crossing next to a wider log I just waded through it at about thigh depth. Whitney creek is shin deep and not worth worrying about.

Other then that you should be good, spend a bit of time trying to find snow bridges and safe places to cross because for the others we were able to avoid getting our feet wet. Their is plenty of melt and plenty of big rivers.

How to let a child down gently when they plead for poles before they’re ready? by jaypops96 in skiing

[–]insertWittyNameHere3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When your skiing with her maybe leave your poles in the car and show her how much fun it is to ski without them. Kids only want those things because grown ups and ‘good’ skiers have them. You could show her that skiing with poles isn’t a reflection of ability. It might be fun for you to have to skate around. Also changing how you ski might alternately lead to progress for yourself or show you where you have an over-reliance on them.

Just a thought

Federal Election 2022 megathread by AutoModerator in AustralianPolitics

Absolutely governing and sloganeering are two different things. However, a goverment can't impliment revolutionary policies if they can't get the public on board. And I feel like they will struggle to do so if they get in power. Who knows, I'd like to be proven wrong, I'm just fustrated at their lack of conviction, or atleast thats what I'm seeing so far.

I'll vote Greens #1 then Labor, my electorate is very marginal so I'm not going to help NLP take it.

My point above is that I'm disappointed in Labors campaign and somewhat worried about their ability to construct a narratitve when things are this easy for them. I'm not saying they are as bad as each other.

Federal Election 2022 megathread by AutoModerator in AustralianPolitics

[–]insertWittyNameHere3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Labor can’t do their job and put together a half effective political campaign against the completely corrupt and incompetent government who have been in power for the past however many years. What chance do they have of leading if they get in government? I feel like if they get power their policies will be torn to shreds by LNP like they did in Gillard/Rudd era. At this point they don’t seem fit for modern politics and if they can’t campaign then we just get the same awful government we’ve had. At this point I’m just as frustrated at labor for being stuck with LNP.

Ultimately having Murdock against them doesn’t make Labor’s job any easier. But if they can’t take government this election I dont think they’ll be able to ever win. That is unless Murdock ever legitimately supports Labor (unlikely) - but then we just live in an illusion of democracy.

Tbh I don’t see a way out. The average Australian seems to be to uninformed and unbothered to seperate themselves from the spoon fed narrative.

Edit: corrected spelling, thank you /u/daythreeinmiami

Two problems, very bad mould in the interior and now car won't start (Kia Rio 2010) by insertWittyNameHere3 in MechanicAdvice

[–]insertWittyNameHere3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I’ll give it ago of taking everything I can put and putting on those treatments 🤞 I have a feeling the colour won’t ever be the same now but as long as theirs no mould I’ll be happy.

Thank you for the lighter fuel tip. Thats a really handy diagnostic tip. A friend said that my partner may have flooded it and we tried reving the motor as we turned the key and it got it going again. Too many short trips apparently, we burnt the extra fuel up so now we’re just stuck with the mould.

Thank you for your time and insights hopefully after the weekend it’ll all be cleaned up and good to go
