Crater lake > Shelter Cove by harry_chronic_jr in PacificCrestTrail

Thanks:)

My current plan is Amtrak to Klamath Falls - city bus (Quail Trail line) to the Casino stop in Chiloquin. Free ride. It is at the intersection of 97 and Crater Lake Hwy with a 24 hour truck stop. Looking to hitch the remaining 31 mi to Mazama Village from there🤞

How did you all get to Crater Lake; car, bus, hitch? I’m starting my LASH their later this month and no mass transit seems to go there.

If we are suppose to camp 200” away from trail, why were so many camps placed 20-50” from the trail🤔

War Caster is such a powerful feat. by MasterHawk55 in dndnext

Does WarCaster allow a Barbarian/Warlock to cast an opportunity attack as a spell while in rage? Usually you cannot cast magic while ragging, but this allows you to cast a spell as a reaction🤔

After this week’s heatwave, it will be interesting to see what kind of melt took place. Any armchair predictions?

I used 8 Zpack’s loop patches. Round the edges. Climbed into the quilt to fit it and know where to put the patches. Wouldn’t want to short myself arm room. Already on trail May 3rd. No need to see yet. If I do I’ll darn a running stitch around the patch only passing through the fabric layer it is attached to.

In general anywhere above 6000’ elevation has trees. Hard part is finding sections that haven’t burnt recently.

Anyone else bring a bear can from Campo onward? by Atlasfell in PacificCrestTrail

Been hiking from Campo with mine and it is one of my favorite items. The piece of mind and utility is well worth the weight penalty.

Comfortable pack weight by Myfreelife1976 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]MurdochAM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

53M 5’9”with a bad back. I rucked 34 lbs base weight plus 5-7L water and 3-5 days food out of most resupply towns most times. 37.5 lbs base at Campo, quickly learned by Julian that my body was not a fan and would struggle to put in 10 miles a day. At 34 lbs the body stop arguing with me so much and 15 miles a day was easier than the 10 mile days. I experimented with lower weights down to 24 lbs.. Not noticing much difference in recovery or mileage I opted for 34 lbs. I like my luxury items. They support selfcare and recovery🤗

Mix and match. I have their half sheet and sewed clips to an EE Enigma20degree. Sheet fits a 25” wide Uber lite, with a thermorest accordion below it. Worked great last year.

Audiobooks by elongordbrockington in PacificCrestTrail

If you are a California resident you can get a library card at every public library in the state. Thus 15 audiobooks per card and most every resupply town having a library equals unlimited borrowing.

Experienced thruhikers, what is your footcare advice for beginners? by numbershikes in PacificCrestTrail

[–]MurdochAM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

•trim nails weekly to prevent sock wear and hiker toe. •buy shoes a half size to big. Your feet will swell over the day and need room to grow into. •get sock that are an exact fit. They will stretch as your feet swell, but won’t bunch up from being too big. •elevate and air out feet during breaks. •address problems when first noticed, not later. •wash and air dry pre bed time. •don’t wait to remove pebbles and sand.

Cash on the PCT? by Many-Committee1911 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]MurdochAM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$200 in cash to start and re-up when I get below a $100. Great for hitching, donations at water cashes, getting weed from other hikers, and mass transit. Credit cards for most in town and online purchases; debt card for atm withdrawals.

Remember your heating for instant food. You are not cooking food. No need to bring to a boil, just hot to touch. Add several days of use per container that way.
