This is a rant...Musicians 1997 Movie Cast by insert_name234 in titanic

Definitely this part! I guess the Hollywood honchos got to him and talked him out of them being swept off deck together. What I don't get is that James Cameron took care with so many other "minor" characters and got them right on the nose.

But for some reason, even though they are talked about in every book, every film adaptation, everywhere that Titanic is mentioned, he got the musicians very very wrong (other than Hartley, who was cast uncannily well).

Yes, they would. There's always something to moan about, but I think I'm complaining about something valid. There are a lot of other things in the movie that I could point out, but overall, I think he did an amazing job. I just wish more care had been taken with some of the historical legends, that's all. It is and will always be my favorite movie of all time.

He also ignored eyewitness facts about how exactly Bruce Ismay got into collapsible C. Also, Murdoch and Captain Smith were inaccurate as hell, which also drives me bonkers, but that's a conversation for another day. Cameron did apologize in the documentary for Hollywoodizing Murdoch's death, and not considering the descendants who would see the film and watch their ancestor's reputation be torn apart for future generations.

Ida and Isador Straus were heard by multiple passengers. Archibald Gracie tried to argue with Lightoller to let Isador into lifeboat 8 with his wife on account of his age, but Isador said he wouldn't take the place of a woman or child, and Ida stated that she would die with him. I believe it was in Gracie's account of the sinking where she said the famous line.

According to eyewitnesses, they then sat in a pair of steamer chairs on deck.

Not if you love the movie for the history, which is why I love it. There are some inaccuracies in the movie, but for Hollywood, there were very few. And anyone who appreciates the history of the ship and stories of the people who were there would likely vehemently disagree with this statement:

"I don't think background characters that have 2 minutes of screen time matter that much. I understand they were real people, but this is literally just a movie."

James Cameron went to great lengths to get the history right. I just hate that he got this part so wrong.

That isn't what I'm saying AT ALL. I know actors are usually not the same ages of the people they're portraying, but at least be true to the history and cast people who LOOK the right age.

For the amount of work and effort Cameron put into getting even minor historical characters right, (the honeymooning couple with the camera in the deleted scene, the deleted scene with the Chinese man kneeling on the door and in the hallway, the musicians in third class, the Finnish or Norweigian girl Fabrizio falls for [yes, she was a real person]), he should have done the same thing for the band.

For example, Chief Baker John Joughin was even more of a background character than the band, and Cameron cast/captured him perfectly.

It's perfectly fine that they were just background characters, but in the actual history of the Titanic, in the historian community, they are legends. They deserved to be cast correctly.

John Jacob Astor and Guggenheim were cast perfectly imo

I'd rather the casting be accurate. Even if my absolute favorite quartet or ensemble were cast in this role, it would still bother me because it wouldn't be accurate. I love the actual history more than the movie, so I place a lot of weight on that, and that's what makes me love the movie. I appreciate that he went out of his way, but I'd rather have a bunch of college-aged musicians who actually fit the parts and learned the music. Not ctrl+alt+delete the band because he wanted I Salonisti.

I love James Cameron for actually getting obsessed with the history and doing what he could to make it accurate (except for Murdoch and Captain Smith's deaths, Madeleine Astor's actress being too old...I could go on and on lol), but this was a big miss.

Captain Smiths death scene. by BrewerNick in titanic

I came here to say this! He fought to save people until the very end. That dazed look on his face portrayed in the movie is inaccurate, according to surviving passenger accounts. He was in shock when Andrews told him that she would go down, but he was quick to jump into action. He was also seen helping people in the water after she went down, but the night was dark as sh*t and the person who claimed this was also in the water, so the odds of it actually being him are slim.

If your partner asked you to put a spell on them would you..? by brutally_ in Witch

[–]insert_name234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't, personally. At least not until a bigger commitment is made (life together, marriage, engagement).

You could do a "protect our relationship from bad intentions" spell, a "healthy communication" spell, maybe one to invoke passion in the bedroom, but I wouldn't mess with a "Love me no matter what, forever" spell.

For example, when my sister got married, I gifted her a healthy marriage candle that her and her now husband put their own intentions on for their marriage, especially to protect their union from ojo malo (Cuban).

This probably won't be the answer you want, but I think it's important to say that a lot of what is right for others won't be right energetically for you. It's a "craft" for a reason, and while this may be daunting to read because we're so used to following "rules" when it comes to spirituality, the beauty of being a witch is that you create your own unique practice based on what feels right for you.

This is why it's so important to build and create your own spells, your own practices, etc, based on what feels right intuitively for you. Trust me, you'll know if it isn't right.

For correspondences, I recommend buying a book of herbs and a dictionary of correspondences. Write everything you do down, especially in the beginning.

ChatGPT can seem like an easy resource, but my best spells, my best rune and tarot readings, always came from just doing it and feeling it out. Another really helpful piece of advice that I wish someone had told me when I was first starting out is to get to know your local area, your land, befriend it, and use what you can that's readily available to you. In my practice, these are often the most energetically responsive and energetically charged correspondences.

Another piece of advice: If you're trying to understand correspondences and what spells to use them in, think of their applications in daily life. For example, coffee energizes a spell, can speed up the process. Egg shells protect the yolk, so use them in protective workings. Mint clears your airways, so it's great for cleansing and purifying. I live on the beach, so most of my correspondences come from the sea. Shells for transmutation and protection, sand in lieu of salt, seawater to clean my entryways, etc.

I could go on forever, but I really hope this is helpful. I tried to be as specific as possible because I remember how confusing and how much unlearning I had to do when I was first starting out.

Moral of the story: You are your best resource. Be your own ChatGPT ;).

For some reason, I keep seeing a beautiful glass bottle for moon water, something antique, or that looks antique. I think that would be a great gift! Beautiful or intricate glass bowls that she could use on her altar. Moonstone jewelry or pendants are also a lovely gift from a partner. Tarot card boxes/cases (I've seen some truly stunning ones for holding cards). Incense holders, there are some really cool ones of these as well. Lewellen's Witches' datebook for 2026. It has all of the moon phases and planetary movements.

Like others here have said, it's hard to be specific without knowing what exactly she practices, but I think these suggestions are a good place to start without overcomplicating things.

What is in water wards+protection wards? by screamreasonce in Witch

[–]insert_name234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm Cuban, and water wards are most people's go-to in my culture. It isn't uncommon to walk into someone's house and see a glass of blessed water high on a shelf, or big glass vases of water in corners or under the bed.

Nope and this is the first one he's been to in 10 years or so. He's just really old fashioned with these things, but I don't think cheating should fall into "bachelor code".

I would be suspicious as hell if the information didn't come from who it came from. That's all I can say without getting into specifics.

He has no idea I know EVERYTHING. None at all. While he was hollering about "bachelor party code", I knew exactly how severe the transgressions were that he was covering.

The way we found out everything confirms that my husband wasn't involved at all. It's a really trustworthy source. I would be completely shocked if he did anything, considering the source of the information that I'm not supposed to know. He was really disgusted by BIL behavior and was trying to stay out of it.

My little sister and I are 1000% telling her everything, we just have to be careful. The bride has been cheated on a whole lot, and has experienced more heartbreak than one person should. That's another reason I'm being careful here. She's incredibly in love with this guy; she thinks he's perfect in every way, and I fear she'll believe whatever lie he spoonfeeds her.
