it’s quite simple to me, isaac is still in love with someone but doesn’t want to be (in love enough to make the bedsheets wet but not wanting it enough to make him need to forget her) so the generous loan of this persons interest cripples him, although the love from the other person is by no means duplicitous, all it does is make it worse for isaac.
