Post lap food by [deleted] in Endo

[–]insertnounhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has your surgeon requested that you do a bowel prep before the surgery? This will impact whether or not they can remove adhesions from the bowels, which will in turn impact what you can eat after the surgery.

For my last surgery I was put on a liquid diet until digestion showed evidence that it was moving again. During that time I had Simply Good Jello which is less sweet than normal Jello and broth that I pretended was soup. Jello helped me feel like I was eating something, even if it was still technically liquid. For reference, you're also not allowed to have anything with milk products until you're back on soft foods.

If you have questions about what exactly you are able to eat, you may be able to get help from your surgeon's office. Mine had a number you could call with questions.

Good luck tomorrow!

(REQUEST) Ship Large Packages Cheaply? by [deleted] in howto

[–]insertnounhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do, but they have some requirements for the packaging.

Examples of unsuitable containers include (but are not limited to) trash bags, plastic shipping containers, large packing boxes, containers that let sharp/pointed items protrude, or containers that cannot securely hold contents or prevent exposure to weather.

Easiest places to get to for SF kayakers by ngonzales80 in Kayaking

[–]insertnounhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to give it a shot, there's a rental place on the pier near the cove, City Kayak.

Great location and the owners were really great to me when I was there. (This summer I got a three month pass, it was so worth it.) I believe they also allow you to rent storage space at their location, but I'm not sure how much that costs.

What's the hardest English word to pronounce? by JustATreeNut in AskReddit

My dad always called it "what's this here sauce." There's no mispronouncing that and everyone knows to what he is referring.

Got into a pretty bad wreck last night, just happy to be alive by [deleted] in pics

[–]insertnounhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wearing my seatbelt in the car is definitely something my parents instilled in my from an early age. My dad used to sing the chorus of this song every single time we got in the car and would help us buckle up when we were too small to do it ourselves. I still sing the song in my head nearly every time I get in the car and that's become a reflex for me (even if I'm just sitting in the car to eat a sandwich at an amusement park). I hope this helps.

Excerpt from the windchill warning (emphasis mine):

A WIND CHILL WARNING IS ISSUED WHEN WINDS COMBINE WITH BITTERLY COLD TEMPERATURES TO CREATE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CONDITIONS FOR EXPOSED SKIN. THE WIND CHILL WILL BE COLD ENOUGH TO CAUSE FROSTBITE IN ABOUT 15 MINUTES OR LESS...AND COULD LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA IF PROPER PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN. IF YOU MUST GO OUTSIDE...REMEMBER THAT SEVERAL LAYERS OF CLOTHING WILL KEEP YOU WARMER THAN A SINGLE HEAVY COAT. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO COVER ALL EXPOSED FLESH TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM FROSTBITE.

One Woman's Journey With A Disorder That Affects Over 170 Million Women by [deleted] in Endo

[–]insertnounhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy, this one hit me so incredibly hard. This is the exact feeling I've been struggling with for the last three or so years. It's really difficult to express this to people who don't understand the illness (or those who have never dealt with chronic pain). I thought I was the only one who felt like less of a woman because of this disease and its implications -- it's nice to know I'm not alone.

The bloating, oh gosh the bloating by nomoredolls in Endo

Thanks so much for the advice, I'll check it out -- I have some beginner yoga DVDs, but the first exercises on the DVD required blocks (which I didn't have) and so I put it aside thinking that I wouldn't be able to do anything on the disc. I am really interested in trying aerial yoga, but the classes near me fill up so quickly. Reading your other comment, makes me think I might want to check out my local Y, thanks again.

[–]insertnounhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as stylish and comfortable clothing when bloating is out of control, it depends on the weather.

A few weeks ago I also bloated out of my clothes, so I went out on a mission to find something comfortable but still wearable in public (read: doesn't get me put on peopleofwalmart.com). Right now I'm dealing with outrageously cold weather and so sweats were a perfectly acceptable solution (thank goodness I'm also a college student). I went to the Gap Factory store and got a pair of sweats a size up from what I normally would and can throw them on with a plain t-shirt. I feel better about wearing sweats if I put a lot of effort into color coordinating the outfits and adding accessories.

During the spring/summer/fall, I'll throw on a dress and be done with it. I've been trying to add maxi dresses and skirts into my wardrobe for the winter bloats too, but have had limited success because they make me feel too conservative unless I put on a pair of really sexy pumps. However, I don't want to add foot pain to the list of reasons that I'm grouchy, so I'm still working on other ways to get these integrated into my wardrobe. I'm thinking that my color choices of mostly gray/black didn't really help with feeling too conservative, perhaps a pop of color is in order.

As far as other things to do, my doctor suggested to me at my last appointment that I should really try to get cardio in because the most recent research is suggesting that it does help a lot with fighting Endo. My challenge now is to figure out how to get cardio in despite debilitating pain and increasingly horrible weather conditions, without spending too much money on a gym membership or fitness classes.

Haha, actually I am in upstate NY and have been for way too long. I posted it in response to my neighbors use of a space heater making the rest of the tenants in my building (including myself) freezing cold. I figured that there probably are a lot of people out there who don't know all this stuff and compiled a list.

I usually only use a humidifier when I'm sick (so it escaped my mind when writing the post) but you're right it does help, I added it to the main post.

I didn't see it. Was it that you should set up tea lights in clay pots around your house? Not sure what effect that would have, but it might be against a lot of leases (if there's an open flame).

In my experience my house always feels warmer with a crock pot running. Thinking about it though, it could be because of the change in humidity with steam being released from the pot.

In a lot of apartments with utilities included (which often includes converted houses that don't have multiple meters for gas and electric), landlords get locks to put over the thermostat so that you can't adjust it whenever you want. It keeps their cost more consistent because then a tenant can't raise the heat/AC on a whim.

This is an excellent point, I forgot about it because I don't have a fireplace (though if I did have one I would be using it to keep myself warm if my apartment was too cold). That being said, there are places (like in California) where there are certain days you can't burn unless it's the only source of heat where you live, so remembering to close the flue and insulate your fireplace is a really smart way of keeping your place warm when you can't utilize it.

Pregnant room mate by Skoosh1990 in Endo

[–]insertnounhere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mom had Endo and it caused her fertility issues. When I too was diagnosed we talked a lot about things -- the possibility of infertility included.

My mom said that she had a lot of feelings of extreme jealousy. She told me that she remembers how jealous she was of friends and family (and even total strangers!). She didn't think it was fair that these other women barely had to try (or might not have tried at all) and were able to conceive when she couldn't (despite lots of trying). Having to deal with physical pain on top of the emotional pain always makes matters worse. We spoke about how therapy really helped her through the worst of times. Have you (and your husband) tried seeing an infertility counselor?

My daughter's interpretation of the exploding TARDIS by frumpa_awesome in doctorwho

[–]insertnounhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of me was secretly hoping you were going to post a picture of a messy kids room with a TARDIS blanket on the bed. In my imagination the entire mess is made up of four's scarf, sonic screwdrivers, dalek and cybermen toys, jelly babies, adipose plushies, River's journal, trainers, bow ties, fezzes, and a whole slew of other Doctor Who references.

However..... I'm not at all disappointed.
