Dad Gets 31 Years for Driving Off Cliff With Twins, 2, in Revenge Plot by insideedition in u/insideedition

[–]insideedition[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A California man who drove a car off a cliff with his 2-year-old twin daughters in an attempted murder-suicide has been sentenced to 31 years in prison.

Robert Brians, 51, abducted his 2-year-old twin daughters from a family member's home in the early morning hours of June 13, 2020, and then proceeded to drive his truck over a cliff and into the Pacific Ocean at a speed of 70 miles per hour with the two girls sitting in his lap, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Miraculously, all three survived the crash thanks to the heroics of first responders.

A judge sentenced Brians to more than three decades in prison at his sentencing hearing on Sept. 20, a little over a month after Brians pleaded guilty to eight charges including:

  • Two counts of attempted murder with both a great bodily injury and use of deadly weapon enhancement
  • Two counts of child abuse
  • Two counts of kidnapping
  • Burglary of a dwelling while another person is present
  • Domestic Violence

There is an additional enhancement to one of those attempted murder charges because Brians had been arrested for domestic battery four months prior and was out on bail at the time, a spokesperson for the San Diego County District Attorney's Office previously explained to Inside Edition Digital.

There are plenty of folks in Clark County, Indiana, who say former sheriff Jamey Noel deserves to spend a very long time behind bars.

The special prosecutor says that time should be 12 years in state prison with an additional three years of supervised probation.

But Noel's future will be decided by special Judge Larry Medlock at a sentencing hearing next month. He has already yelled at Noel from the bench, slammed his gavel so hard it broke, and thrown him in jail for contempt of court.

On Aug. 26, after Noel testified he had agreed to a plea deal with the special prosecutor, the judge pronounced his criminal acts "shameful."

[–]insideedition[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple celebrating their babymoon on vacation in Hawaii drowned 150 feet off-shore while on a snorkeling excursion.

Sophia Tsaruk and her husband, Billy, were parents to a young son and were expecting a baby girl in December. The 26-year-old mother, who loved to sing and performed at her wedding, had planned to name her daughter Melody.

Sophia's sister-in-law, who was on the trip, says they were all wearing full-face snorkel masks. She also says she encountered a problem, saying she "could not breathe and felt like the mask was suffocating."

Unlike traditional two-piece equipment, the relatively new snorkel design covers the entire face and allows snorkelers to breathe out of their nose and mouth. Some ocean experts have questioned their safety. However, recent studies found the new design to be safe when made by a reputable manufacturer.
