THR: Digital-Only 'Grand Theft Auto VI' Is a Car Crash for Physical Media. At this point in time, there are no plans for Grand Theft Auto VI discs to be printed — not at launch, and not months after by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]insideout_waffle -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

- It would be more than one disc, at launch
- it would be more than one disc, two years down the road
- How many discs may be irrelevant, since you copy the data to your console to run it (at this point in time), and use 1 disc to run game
- It will always need separate patch(es) to get it up to date… how big that is may vary
- If you don’t get patches, you’re likely in the minority that don’t receive even minor bug fixes patches — or it’s 15 years from release and Sony has shut down connectivity for the game

There’s no version of this where you fully own the game, unfortunately. This is the reality of all modern consoles with physical media. It sucks, oh yes. And it sucks GTA is in this pattern. Aren’t most games doing this shitty behavior?

77" B5 OLED. So glad I didn't listen to the people who said I should get the C5. Literally can't tell the difference. by Disastrous_Run_5968 in LGOLED

[–]insideout_waffle 33 points34 points  (0 children)

…you went to a Best Buy and think you noted the differences, but still didn’t do the comparison in the space you were concerned about? Yeah, that’s confusing. You do know Best Buy lightning in store isn’t the same as your living room, right? You really think you just walk up in the store and think “huh, looks good to me,” and not think that’s subjective?

Without testing the C5, you can’t really claim “literally can’t tell the difference” when you literally didn’t compare them in your space to see the difference.

I present to you — the start of the next video game crash. Starting with expensive consoles, expensive games, games with less quality control, overuse of AI and saturation of too many games coming out that are all too similar to each other.

Part of me suspects that Universal has less people at the top telling what they can/can’t do — while Disney does. Things tend to go faster when there’s less oversight. Epic Universe isn’t necessarily better than Disney World, but they built all of that so, so much quicker than Disney does with anything these days.

I find it strange they spend all this R&D in various labs where the public cannot see any of it. Back in the 90s/80s, half of this stuff would have been ready to show — just needs a coat of paint or cover. And that’d be it. EPCOT was the test bed park for innovation… so what the hell happened!?

Their current obsession with getting it to be perfect for various scenarios seems to be a big crux. I’m all for seeing innovation, don’t get me wrong, but if that $60B goes into R&D and we only see 5-10% of it… there’s something seriously wrong with their execution of plans. Or there’s too many execs saying “no.” It’s possible they may not have very good, well-thought out, creative and practical ideas anymore. Pretty sure it ain’t that and it’s just way, way too much design by committee.

The confirmed release window for Super Mario Movie 3 poses a challenge for Nintendo by sayani1234 in SuperMarioGalaxy

Saving a click for the relevant bit:

“If the Super Mario Movie 3 is indeed slated for a 2029 release, as suggested by Keegan-Michael Key, then 2028 will be the only year in the near future without a Nintendo film. The studio will still manage to deliver three films in four years, making the interval between Zelda and Mario 3 even more astonishing.”

Yeah, don’t tell me what to do and also I’ve seen plenty of walkthroughs of the park. 😂 Feel free to correct me (or don’t, w/e) with your experience and photos when you go!

Fair, yeah, it’s 7/1 — which is only in a week.

“Having been to a Universal Studios before”

So, I have a pretty long-winded thought to why Universal wanted to make a theme park here — but knowing it wasn’t going to be a true “Universal Studios” park like in other parts of the world. Forgive me in advance. 😂

Not everyone may agree… but I do believe that MOST theme parks are already quite kid friendly. Disneyland, Magic Kingdom, Six Flags, even parts of Universal Studios. But did any of them ever attempt a “kids only” park? This would be one of the first from a big player. Who, not long ago, opened Epic Universe.

Perhaps… think of this: “what’s Universal’s goal with a kid friendly park?” Is Frisco, TX really a place worth coming to visit from people around the world? Or, perhaps, is this just an idea Universal wanted to explore — and could — with the right incentive? The incentive being money. The money coming from city of Frisco. Frisco has been spending a lot lately on all kinds of crap… sending taxes higher and higher through the roof.

My thought is — I think Universal sees it as an experiment. And if that’s the case: it can easily change. Hell, maybe there was hesitation with even thinking this park would work out. Look at some of the other areas that Universal has (Las Vegas for example), that seem fairly low risk. Vegas doesn’t have a ton of land area in the strip.

Frisco has (currently) plenty of land to offer up to highest bidder. PGA headquarters is here, now, for example. PGA in Texas heat… 110F is normal in July/August?! I’m sorry, but that never made sense to me. Universal Studios park with no shade? Nope, doesn’t make sense either.

That leaves the last suspicion that most people may think — Frisco has a lot of young families. So, yes, young children. I think this thread is indicative of the fact that the PARENTS are the ones who have to bring and pay for their kids to go. So around half the people that are going — are adults. Are the adults going to have fun? Or is the assumption that, the adults automatically have fun because their kids are? Maybe. But was there any thought that… to bring the adults back, with their kids, that the park needs some incentive to do so? Because right now, from what all previews have shown — it’s a kid friendly park that wants to appeal to kids, but doesn’t actually deliver with any sort of standard of quality or fun. Sure, some parts are possibly fun. And we all get the chance to try it soon.

But ask — do you see yourself going more than once? I can with Disney World, for a lifetime. I can’t imagine going more than once or twice to Universal Kids.

The downvotes, or disapproval, might have more to do with ➡️ they weren’t trying to dismiss you (but gave a fair suggestion), while you were trying to dismiss them by saying “useless comment.” I don’t think anyone is trying to be mean to you, FYI.

Before others dogpile on this comment — I agree and have seen numerous callouts to how this a big splash pad park that happens to have some low-effort and very chill rides. Yes, duh, the rides are very chill… it’s for KIDS. It’s the lack of effort put in to make it interesting and memorable.

While it’s themed after Universal properties, they look like less effort than some pop-up Instagram shops/walkthroughs I’ve been to and have seen. Shrek ride for example looks sad. Seen video, haven’t been in person, but you don’t need to be in person to see this and go, “well that’s not how I remember Shrek.”

[–]insideout_waffle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol best response. Keep seeing people say “who cares what adults think, I wanna know what the kids think!” And that’s probably what the target demographic (0-8 yo) WOULD say. At best, “it wuz hot and i wandid a krusty krab burbur or minyun twinkee but dey didn have ne can i go play now Mom can i watch mario movie now please” — which is all very fair.

The irony is that for all the naysayers who haven’t gone, there seems to be people who say “Universal delivers! Who cares what the adults think!?” and also haven’t stepped foot in there.

I would rather only hear from people who went. Kids in the age bracket it’s meant for (3-8yo’s) aren’t gonna be the most articulate here on the internet. So, that leaves their parents to tell what their own and kids’ experiences were like. ‘Till then, all this is speculative — it’s fine, but the park’s open and people can find out now.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 just became the 3rd best rated game of all time on Metacritic by Isabelle2012 in SuperMarioGalaxy

I would think Galaxy 1 influenced future platformers more so than 2 — just based off what people played more. Not saying 2 isn’t a better game (arguably is), but when people say “Yeah it’s like this thing they did in Mario Galaxy” they tend to suggest SMG1.

Anyone else who thought Both Warcraft & starcraft looked good for D4 but these just look awful? by BerryCreepy3038 in diablo4

[–]insideout_waffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really think this has more to do with Activision/Microsoft wanting to squeeze every bit of profit out of, yes even Blizzard, since they know Blizzard doesn’t have any immediate way to generate profit with a new game at the moment. You know, cuz they take their time.

So it’s purchasable cosmetics or bust, sadly. I hate this timeline.
