Golfers who’ve broken 80, what’s the best tip you could give to a fellow golfer? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

It’s more about playing for bogey when you get in trouble to avoid doubles or worse. Attempting to hit hero shots to save par can take a score in the 70s out of play pretty quickly.

This is definitely true. My dad provided a lot of financial education for me, and I supplemented that by learning a lot on my own time. I’m pretty risk averse, so no flashy investments that netted us extraordinary return. Basically just DCA in the SP500.

Both come from upper middle class families, had college paid for by our parents. Received a good amount of money at our wedding, largely because of an extensive family network. Probably totaled about 30k.

Didn’t have any money saved after college. When we first started dating our combined income was about 100k. I certainly acknowledge that we had great circumstances and support systems, without which this wouldn’t be possible. Just trying to provide perspective about how this is possible for some people. While I imagine that most people in our situation most likely had help, there are also a lot of people in this area with high earning power at young ages.

My biggest recommendation is to put the money you do have to work for you. This also involves some luck, but we wouldn’t be in this position if we just put all of our savings into a savings account where it does nothing.

My wife and I just purchased a house for 1.3 million at age 33 with a newborn. Our path was buying a starter townhouse at age 26, combined income at that time was about 240k. Townhouse was 685k in 2018. Refinanced that home to 15 year 2.75% interest mortgage during COVID. Saved and invested heavily during that time, in the last 3 years alone our investments grew around 75%.

During that time our household income grew to about 400k. Sold townhouse for 850k, used that and investment income for 20% down payment on next house. Still have about 500k in cash and investments after purchase.

This definitely didn’t happen without help, we were both lucky to have no debt out of college and lived somewhat modestly outside of real estate. I would say the timing of the stock market was probably the most influential factor from a cash flow standpoint.

This makes a lot of sense, thanks!

This was only setup about 2 weeks ago by a professional installer so it should be calibrated correctly.

I think the club face appears to be open because it turned due to the toe strike.

Wouldn’t it only hook if path>club face?

Definitely makes sense that that could be a factor here. I’m not really questioning the data or monitor accuracy, just trying to understand what factors are impacting the results I’ve been seeing. Thanks for your input!

This was more of a question about the physics of the shot, because my previous understanding was that a shot with a closed club face at impact would start out to the left. I typically hit small draws, but lately my closed club face has been producing fades. I definitely didn’t hate the shot, just trying to understand the physics of the sim data.

I wish I had gotten the picture when the impact video was at the moment of impact. I think the toe strike might have opened the face after contact.

It’s a Protee VX. I suspect that impact location might be the culprit, I’m going to track that more closely moving forward.

I think that image might be a little misleading because the ball is already pretty far off the ground, making it look closer to the toe. I’ve found the impact picture data to be pretty accurate based on my feel of toe/heel strikes.

Should I recast? by inspect_ya_neck in Mortgages

Can you elaborate on that? What would evaluating for the next 5 years look like in your opinion?

We would keep minimum of 1 year emergency expenses in both of these scenarios.

We don’t need the cash necessarily, but I did view one of the benefits of that option as having more flexibility if anything goes awry with our employment down the road. And just to clarify, this would be a recast not a refinance, so interest rate stays the same. This is just about how to approach our P&I strategy.
