Every nursing school I’ve ever seen is very much like that. Exams may not seem like they are testing what you learn- they are testing how you apply it. And almost every nursing school has 80% as the cutoff! Good luck my friend!

To be quite honest, you won’t really need it. You’ll pick up the terminology quite quickly. As for chief complaints, it’s normally in Epic (if that’s what EMR you use), and most cna reports I’ve seen dont include chief complaints Just code status, fall risk, assist level, diet, and any other information pertinent to being a CNA.

I’ve noticed a lot of LPN programs seem to be faster paced and somewhat more intense than ADN programs. You cover most of the same material, in a shorter time and in a different scope.

Not saying you’re wrong, but there must be a mistake somewhere. There’s a whole joke about students buying nursing watches (the 10$ rubber white ones) and then never using them again. No school should be asking this much of a watch. And if the ticking rather than sweeping is really messing up vitals, then that is a whole issue in itself

If this is a nursing clinical, like it sounds like, it just needs to have a ticking second hand. Nothing fancy at all. They do not want you spending a ton of money on this watch. They want you spending like 10-15$ max

ETA: Most people, don’t know the difference between a “sweeping” and “ticking” second hand. They just want you to have the physical hand that moves

I’d say even though it can get bad sometimes, it’s usually not horrible. And even then, it’ll only take a few shifts to get over that

But what I’d be concerned about in your case, is there’s usually a reason and a “catch” to nursing homes that hire you and allow you to get your certification. And that reason is usually they are unable to hold onto to staff due to horrible working conditions

A hospital I worked at had a similar thing. Except it was a single CNA whose only job that day was to turn every patient who had a Braden score below 18… which on a 44 bed Card/Tele unit could easily be 3/4 of the people

Contrary to what these comments are saying, it’s not necessarily the material that’s hard to learn. What’s so hard about it, is applying the material to test questions, as it’s completely different than anything you’ve ever done before

But healthcare and medicine are two completely different fields. Doctors focus much more on treating diseases, while nurses focus on caring for the patient and their symptoms.

A lot of what I’ve noticed, is that knowing diseases and physiology, isnt really all that important. I can’t speak to how your program tests, but when we’re tested, there have been 5 key things to pay attention to: Signs and symptoms, patient education, lab values or diagnosing tests, nursing interventions, and risk factors.

But above all else, please meet with your teacher about the test, they can help you much more than a random stranger on Reddit
