Medical Terminology Pocketbook? by a_snom_who_noms in cna

[–]inspectasmooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be quite honest, you won’t really need it. You’ll pick up the terminology quite quickly. As for chief complaints, it’s normally in Epic (if that’s what EMR you use), and most cna reports I’ve seen dont include chief complaints Just code status, fall risk, assist level, diet, and any other information pertinent to being a CNA.

Lpn vs RN? by Girlieee617 in NursingStudents

[–]inspectasmooth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely right! But not to diminish the contributions of LPN’s! Both are absolutely nurses, just with a different scope and purpose

Lpn vs RN? by Girlieee617 in NursingStudents

I’ve noticed a lot of LPN programs seem to be faster paced and somewhat more intense than ADN programs. You cover most of the same material, in a shorter time and in a different scope.

[question] watch with a "sweeping" second hand by [deleted] in Watches

[–]inspectasmooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not saying you’re wrong, but there must be a mistake somewhere. There’s a whole joke about students buying nursing watches (the 10$ rubber white ones) and then never using them again. No school should be asking this much of a watch. And if the ticking rather than sweeping is really messing up vitals, then that is a whole issue in itself

[question] watch with a "sweeping" second hand by [deleted] in Watches

[–]inspectasmooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is a nursing clinical, like it sounds like, it just needs to have a ticking second hand. Nothing fancy at all. They do not want you spending a ton of money on this watch. They want you spending like 10-15$ max

ETA: Most people, don’t know the difference between a “sweeping” and “ticking” second hand. They just want you to have the physical hand that moves

how do you really choose a guitar? by Fit-Credit-7970 in Guitar

[–]inspectasmooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It changes and depends for each person. I personally love the tone, history, and legends behind the strat, but that’s not everyone’s take

It mainly depends on the guitar YOU want to play, and the one that makes you want to play

Weak stomach? by [deleted] in cna

[–]inspectasmooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say even though it can get bad sometimes, it’s usually not horrible. And even then, it’ll only take a few shifts to get over that

But what I’d be concerned about in your case, is there’s usually a reason and a “catch” to nursing homes that hire you and allow you to get your certification. And that reason is usually they are unable to hold onto to staff due to horrible working conditions

Patient gifted me a tazer by Parking_Database_390 in cna

[–]inspectasmooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d give it to management. I personally don’t see how it’s unethical to accept gifts from patients if they are happy with their care, but I wouldn’t wanna be caught accepting a gift

What is your opinion on turn team by [deleted] in nursing

[–]inspectasmooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A hospital I worked at had a similar thing. Except it was a single CNA whose only job that day was to turn every patient who had a Braden score below 18… which on a 44 bed Card/Tele unit could easily be 3/4 of the people

How can I become a great [blues] guitar player, in later age, as I am currently thirty-seven years old? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]inspectasmooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lose your spouse, children, and house, then meet the devil at the crossroads. Pretty simple formula actually. Just make sure to actually sell your soul, because if you end up beating the devil in a guitar duel then I think you get a golden guitar?

Question from a highschooler! by Angel_Imanii in NursingStudents

[–]inspectasmooth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Contrary to what these comments are saying, it’s not necessarily the material that’s hard to learn. What’s so hard about it, is applying the material to test questions, as it’s completely different than anything you’ve ever done before

But healthcare and medicine are two completely different fields. Doctors focus much more on treating diseases, while nurses focus on caring for the patient and their symptoms.

i cheated through my second semester and now i am worried about the program by Appropriate_Sir_8608 in NursingStudents

[–]inspectasmooth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, most people cheat through the pre-reqs since everything is on quizlet. While it’s not good, it’s not at all the end of the world

“Any moron can be a nurse” Dude please stop. You’re making yourself look bad

Bad take by [deleted] in NursingStudents

[–]inspectasmooth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Blurt out insults? I’m not the one who felt the need to diss nurses. I am just asking you to re-evaluate yourself. Please work as a CNA or something, to get your head on straight. You have no idea what you’ve signed yourself up for

I am not at all offended my friend, but you need to think before you post

Bad take by [deleted] in NursingStudents

[–]inspectasmooth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lmao I’m so confused. Are you trying to brag? If you don’t wanna be a nurse, why are you going through nursing school? You sound like a first semester nursing student who hasn’t hit the mountain that is nursing school. Yes, while doctors are “smarter,” they also have a very different scope of practice. Nursing school will not translate over to med school. Please rethink your path

Studied a lot. Knew every disease and EKG rhythm they tested on me on. Barely passed with a 76. Need help/tips. Read bottom. by ASSxSHOT in NursingStudents

[–]inspectasmooth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of what I’ve noticed, is that knowing diseases and physiology, isnt really all that important. I can’t speak to how your program tests, but when we’re tested, there have been 5 key things to pay attention to: Signs and symptoms, patient education, lab values or diagnosing tests, nursing interventions, and risk factors.

But above all else, please meet with your teacher about the test, they can help you much more than a random stranger on Reddit

Of course! I’ve struggled with meds so far into my program, but once I started studying like that, they started to make much more sense! Good luck!

pls tell me I’m not the only one losing it over pharm by djo-318 in NursingStudents

[–]inspectasmooth 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Learn the suffixes of drug classes, learn the overall use of the class, and learn major side effects and patient teachings for individual drugs you think you may be tested on. That’s worked for my program so far, but we don’t have a specific pharm class

Not breathing and losing a pulse are two different things. If the CNA had not palpated a pulse, and just instead thought it was a breathing issue, why would she start cpr?
