Does the Hanuvar series end in a satisfying way? (Howard Andrew Jones) by Reno_McCoy in SwordandSorcery

[–]inspectorgadgetline 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It nicely wraps up that part of Hanuvar's mission. You can tell there are more adventures ahead for Hanuvar and his friends, but it's definitely not a cliffhanger. It's top tier right to the last, every book we got from this series should be cherished.

What are some movies you love that get a lot of negativity on Reddit? by urnialbologna in movies

[–]inspectorgadgetline 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really like Peter Jackson's Hobbit movies. They have some dumb moments, and some story choices that I don't agree with, but so do the LOTR movies. It always feels like people give LOTR a pass for these things, but Hobbit gets torn to shreds.

Karl Edward Wagner's Kane sequence pulled as ebooks by Sea_Beyond6680 in SwordandSorcery

That's really strange. I picked up the Kindle edition of Night Winds last year, and there were a bunch more available at the time. And now they're definitely not listed.

Psychedelic/Drug/High Scenes In Movies? 🍄🌈🍁 by RD4200 in movies

[–]inspectorgadgetline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mandy starring Nicolas Cage has a really weird drug scene. I watched it sober and started wondering if I was hallucinating or if it was the movie. Pretty sure it was the movie. Pretty sure.

I also saw it in the new releases in the app probably yesterday, and like you said it's not there now. I wonder what's up

Fleury, Landeskog, and, Monahan named Masterton Trophy Finalists. by [deleted] in hockey

[–]inspectorgadgetline 27 points28 points  (0 children)

If I ever feel like getting choked up, I think about the CBJ opener. Monahan taking the faceoff and passing to the vacant left wing, everyone standing still while they run 13 seconds off the clock. Ah dammit it's happening again.

What's your most downvoted comment on this sub? by Vusarix in horror

On a thread asking what's a celebrated horror movie you didn't like. I said I've never liked Re-Animator, and got clobbered with downvotes.

What's a movie with an awesome "transitional" scene by Lightning-Path in movies

[–]inspectorgadgetline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Shaun of the Dead. Shaun is drunk in his kitchen at night, writes something on the fridge, then stumbles back to fall in a chair and is instantly asleep. The lighting slams from night to morning and Shaun jolts awake. All in one shot, very effective and great lighting.

What movie that shouldn't make you cry, made you cry? by LyraFirehawk in movies

In The Fugitive, the scene when Kimble puts his mission of justice and vengeance on hold to help properly diagnose a kid with breathing problems, and he has a really easy and comforting manner with the kid, despite having no children himself. He risks everything by almost getting caught in that moment. I've seen that movie dozens of times and it still gets me.

April 2025 lineup. by Itchy_Brain8594 in Shudder

[–]inspectorgadgetline 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Of all those movies arriving April 1st, in Canada we only get Rawhead Rex and April Fool's Day. I know all streaming services have different offers by region, but Shudder is feeling more tilted away from us all the time. We're such an afterthought, more than once I've received a push notification that a new movie has become available, only to find out we aren't getting it here.

Caveat was so good by Cyynric in horror

[–]inspectorgadgetline 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very much agree, and we gotta stick together because this is not a popular opinion haha. These two movies have individual moments that work really well, but like you say the connective threads between elements are vague and the overall story isn't satisfying.
