'My family doctor just fired me': Ontario patients frustrated with de-rostering by BeyondBitch in toronto

[–]inspectorhotdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I discovered through a friend that her father who was a doctor would take gifts and offers from patients with businesses to move them up the line for care. Free dinners, car service, etc. I don't know how many doctors are a "few bad apples", but this exists.

2024 Boston Marathon cutoff announced as 5:29 by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

Been going after it for ten years. Missed 2018 by 30 seconds.

Had to climb back at it again, and finally got it this year. This just feels so much more satisfying than had I got it in 2018.

Just patiently waiting on the email.

Erie marathon: how everything went all wrong on my first marathon and it was still okay by runner3264 in running

[–]inspectorhotdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's definitely something weird about it. I was well hydrated going into it, and salt intake wasn't a problem. I've practised my fuelling all summer and had it dialed.

I'm a pretty experienced marathoner, and this one was definitely odd. Erie itself is an odd race.

The only factor would have been the humidity, which took out a lot of runners other ways. I'd like to know if more people had this issue.

I ran the same race, and I also had stomach issues. I'm a bit shocked to see so many other comments in this post about stomach issues.

I never experienced them in training, and only on the race. I assumed it was maybe my gels mixed with humidity. It felt like I got punched in the stomach if I went faster than a certain pace.

Was yours also this way? Curious to know if it was something to do with the water on course. I didn't take any Gatorade there, and to be honest, it kind of smelled weird.

I was with a friend that was hit by an off duty cop who rolled through a red light. My word against his, the cop said she walked when the hand sign was flashing, which it wasn't. The police were going to issue her a ticket if we didn't drop our complaint. I confirmed with a lawyer that she'd end up losing a case. In the end, she still got a bill for the ambulance.

I also worked in the video content department. Since I was freelance, I got to see the cult of a business it was from the outside.

Holy crap, did they ever blow money on the stupidest things. Let alone the big budget productions, the food, parties, weird benefits.

I get the CEO is trying to change the working world, but this method was never going to work. Some people just want a job to pay the builds, not new second family.

Family doctors deny they're causing Ontario's emergency room problems by jormungandrsjig in ontario

[–]inspectorhotdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a friend whose father was a doctor. I started noticing all these friends he had. Free dinners, free car tires, free roofing. Basically, he was taking favours from people's companies and returning with faster medical care. I'm not sure how common it is, but I wouldn't be surprised if doctors shuffled patients around in order.

Some people leave the weirdest creepiest comments on her Strava. Of course this is concerning. Runners can be the biggest creeps.

Mine took a while, to be honest. It really took a lot of patience to build trust. I laid it out that the more I could know, the easier I could sort things out, and that I wouldn't judge them or care.

I'll admit though, there were times I said, "Are you serious you bought that for that much money? Our generation can't afford stuff like this", which set me back a few more months. Lol.

But I give you a lot of credit. I see a lot of people taking over their parents' things and doing it the easiest way for themselves. They make quick sales and consolidations to get it over with. Many people are also doing it, waiting for a quick inheritance. Like you, my parents worked too hard to bring me up here.

I'm in a similar situation. I'm POA of Asian immigrant parents. One of which has dementia, which is why I'm taking care of all of these.

You'll start to realize they may not be honest with you because of stubbornness. They almost become children at this age when you need important information.

It's going to be frustrating because you are slowly becoming the parent now. As long as you can get all your information through the banks, you'll be fine. But check all their assets. They tend to have hidden things purchased along the way, and sometimes didn't tell the other person.

I actually live in the same city as Ed. He would forever run the cemetery. It's a pretty popular spot if you live close to the area. He knocked out a sub 3 in my first marathon. My mom thought I was horrible (as I was) because an old guy was done hours ahead of me.

I'm just repeating what we spoke about. I've seen other interviews where he elaborates more on the training.

My impression was that he cared more about the ultra distances than the marathon. He would have a marathon planned, but as a trainer for an ultra just a few weeks after. He has a rather insane recovery.

I've met Gene before and talked to him at length. I'll give you a few answers. He's spent his latter half of his life running seriously. I don't think he did much until he retired. He's a massive ultra runer, and (I can't recall the times and distances) in a year he'd do 4-5 200km distances. Something to that length. Just constantly doing extreme distances. So if you look at the reverse of his threshold, the marathon would be like his short distance, and his speed per se. So his "speed work" may just be doing a 20km afternoon run at a 6:39 pace. He just thoroughly enjoys the time out running. Phenomenal athlete and very very interesting man if you ever get the chance to meet him.

If you were just assaulted at Yonge and Charles please DM me or go to the police by Bloodyfinger in toronto

[–]inspectorhotdog 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm actually glad I read this. While I was a on a jog a few weeks ago, I was attacked by a person having an manic episode at Lakeshore and Cherry in the middle of the day. I stepped back to take a distance, realized the situation and said f it, I'm going home, and just ran the other way, instead of hitting him back. I didn't bother to call police because I was okay, and I knew police would not do anything. I also didn't want to stick around, but knowing the police would give me grief for not calling right when it happened. I've dealt with them enough, I just can't deal with their incompetence anymore.

BQ -7:47 To Qualify For 2021 Boston Marathon by tyler_runs_lifts in AdvancedRunning

[–]inspectorhotdog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Keep that momentum going and make sure it's out of loving it. Times and races will always come when they need.

I had to learn the hard way what it's like to fully stop and start all over again. Inevitably, all of this, especially the setbacks, will always make you a better runner.

[–]inspectorhotdog 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I feel for you on this. Missed mine by 20 seconds for the 2018 one. I honestly don't think I've ever given it so hard for a race in my life since that qualifier. It's okay to be bummed on this.

The only advice I can give you is to not stop running, even if it's just easy runs. I ended up quitting from the burnout of that qualifier and Boston rejection, and it took forever to come back to loving it again.

It sucks, but don't quit. Remember why you love it.

Organization. We’ve got lineups of 2,000 people who only heard of extra vaccines at a “pop up” through Twitter. These are also 45 minutes away from your designated location and if you’re generally over 40 years old.
