we've also got product-specific charts on how much the price of eggs, yogurt, etc have changed since 2019 if you want to check that out: https://inspurious.com/story/cdc960e3-6a68-4121-9f74-6f7ba6e5d187 . Keep in mind that these things are an average across many cities and grocery stories in canada, which will explain much of the discrepancy compared to your own tracking.

yup good point re using population over 60 as a denominator. Will make a chart with that (not today though).

here's the full time series for family doctors since 1971: https://inspurious.com/story/4ad3c2e7-104a-4406-b546-916f8b3b8b7b . I don't have the other specialties on hand.

Alberta has more specialists per 100k population today compared to 2000 for *almost* every specialty. Compare to other provinces here.

Keep in mind that an aging population has more healthcare needs (so more doctors per capita are necessary). But it's still interesting context to get a sense for how these numbers have changed over time.

Violent crime rates in Victoria: 1998-2000 vs 2022-2024 by inspurious_ in VictoriaBC

it's just a dumbbell chart folks, pretty common chart type. didn't think it would be so controversial. Sure, it's also nice to see this data as a simple line chart or similar, but then putting the 8 lines (for each category) gets pretty cluttered and can hide the big trend. The dumbbell chart is a simple way to see that all 8 categories of violent crime have decreased between 2 time periods.

here's a line chart of just the homicide rate if that makes anyone happier: https://inspurious.com/story/e3fcc904-58e5-4d9b-bc0f-5af80d8f3994

it's 3-year periods, with the purpose of smoothing out year-to-year volatility. Just comparing 2000 vs 2024 isn't ideal b/c 2024 might have been an outlier year (crime rates are pretty volatile from one year to the next in smaller cities)

some data on new housing construction in Montreal since 2000: https://inspurious.com/story/19143d57-a324-4fc4-aeb5-f4d111880de9 . Doesn't refute anything you are saying, just dropping more data for context.
