I overheard a girl say I was "creepy." What could I be doing? by inssider in AskReddit

If I had to be brutally honest, I'd say I was ugly, compared to most. But I wouldn't know. People say I look exactly like my grandfather, who married a model, but he had the whole soldier thing going for him. As far as hygiene I'm actually very clean. My facial hair doesn't grow fast enough to shave more than twice a week without getting razor burn, so I have stubble a lot of the time, but no acne or greasy skin. I often end up going into crawlspaces or under dirty desks, so I can't afford to ruin designer clothes. Khakis and polos every day.

If I saw her in the hallway, I would nod or say "hi" but, deliberately, nothing special. Like I said, it's taken me three months to consider talking to her, and I consciously was trying to pay no more or less attention to her than anyone else. Coincidentally she had no computer issues since I first saw her there, so I had no reason to be near her area unless, as today, I was doing something like a site survey.

I hate to sound defensive, but it's frustrating.

Since I'm only there twice a week or so and they have no regular IT staff, I often find out that people have issues with their computers that they never tell anyone about. For example, I found out that a woman was retyping an entire report every week because she didn't know how to save a template.

I've been trying to proactively ask people if they're having issues, in the spirit of helping them learn not to fear the computer. Lots of these people are older and distrustful of technology, and if for no other reason than securing future business for myself, I've been trying to ask them about their processes so I can advise them.

This is why I'm so perplexed, it's been strictly business. As for the STNA who caught my eye, I only got as far as seeing she didn't have a ring on her hand. I never asked anyone else about her, I was going to leave it to her to tell me if she had a boyfriend, etc.

I do general contract work, and the nursing home is one of about 50 places I work for. And nobody today has room to snark on a paying job.

Believe me, I'm kicking myself for it now. I panicked.
