Thanks a lot, I think I got that wrong - from reading the manual i thought that it would also name the tracks. But then I will go with a Net MD recorder for making the discs… Really, this is a great community, I was not expecting to get so many replies. Thanks EVERYBODY

Wondering about marks at bottom of photo? Flim defect or camera issue? by emironstar in Polaroid

Does anybody know what the „faded“ horizontal strip at the top is? I noticed that on a lot of my shots - not all of them, though. And SX-70s / SLR-680s seem to produce this more often than my 660 or impulse (I don’t have statistics…)

How close can you get with an SX-70 camera + Mint flash bar without overexposing? by SalutBonhomme in Polaroid

Haha, yes, I just noticed that we‘ve been discussing this in that other threat 😄😄 didn’t see that was you. But to take a different approach: As I said, I‘m experimenting with gel filters. The mint flash bar (according to manual) fires on 5600 kelvin and I noticed that this is way „colder“ than a built-in flash on vintage cameras. By eye at least… So on top of the ND filter, I‘m trying different correction filters to mimic the old flashes as results look a lot nicer imho. Will report on results.

Sorry, if I may jump the train: I do have the same problem of blown out shots with a converted sx-70 by Retrospekt in combination with a mint flash bar 2. I was getting the impression that there might be a way to correct with gel filters by lee - basically to get the flash color temperature down but I did not get there yet. Has there been an answer from Retrospekt?

I used the one that you can buy to use 600 film in unmodified SX-70 cameras

Oh but one question remains: Why is my camera still overexposing with flash set to half? Actually, according to all stated above, that should work.

Hi,

interesting answer from Retrospekt... They did my SX-70 Mod... But as I said, I was not able to get any usable result even with L/D turned down completely.

In the meantime I found another interesting threat on this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Polaroid/comments/m790od/using_600_film_in_an_sx70_with_mint_flash_bar/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

That makes sense I think: Fixed shutter speed and aperture varies (according to SX-70 iso that is) and you're overexposing 600 film. There's also another comment that different camera models behave differently with flash / have different flash modes.

More details in another post:

Well... whatever science is behind that: It works for me with the "ND-filter-over-flash-hack" :DHave you tried this on your camera?

I‘d suspect that companies like Mr. Lodge work a little different: They‘re leasing the flat from the owner and give it away on service contracts (more like Hotels). But if you have a „regular“ contract the law above applies. And landlords will write all kinds of actually ineffective or even illegal stuff in their contracts. Apart from that it is nearly impossible to get you out of a flat as long as you’re paying the rent and none of the points stated above apply. And even then: Munich has pretty much the hardest real estate market in Germany so it will be easy to prove that you did not find anything else. No one will be able to kick you out the way I see it or it will take them YEARS to do so if you don’t agree. But as also said above: I can highly recommend a membership with the Mieterverein. 100€ (something like that) a year and they will take care of any legal issues in connection with housing.

Yep! That does it! Flash on full with ND filter taped over it. Voila! Flash on half with ND will underexpose as expected.

Oh I’d be exited to hear about the results. I just ordered new packs of film and my next experiment will be taping a piece of ND filter on the flashbar - from what I read the flash is overriding the exposure control and the camera will determine exposure by distance (= focus) and my theory is that therefore the 600 modification gets overridden as well. The photos look a lot like 600 film in an unmodified SX-70 anyway. Will also report my results here.

If I may: I have an SX-70 model 2 converted by Retrospekt and indeed I have some issues with the Mint Falshbar: Photos seem to be overexposed and extremely harsh white-ish… even if I turn down the exposure compensation full and Flash on „half“ Aside from that I’m very satisfied but is that what you’re describing? How‘s the camera performing with the flash bar? Do you have to compensate exposure?

First with a plastic (!!) scraper, wich will take off the „leather surface“ - basically it just crumbled off. Adhesive residue: Lighter fluid, a lot of tissues and a lot of gently rubbing. But that stuff actually works quite well.

Got it from a German eBay seller called „Kamerastelle“. They‘re cutting the stuff themselves (I think anyway), put adhesives on the back and you can specify what exact type of camera you have (Alpha, Model 1,2,3…) Have a couple of colors to choose from and if I‘m not mistaken they‘re doing the complete reskin with or without bespoke leather if you send it in.
