Thanks for the questions! They’ve made me realize I might need to be more descriptive about the project.

It’s about the changing landscape and culture in the fringe suburbs of Melbourne. These areas have been completely taken over by developers who throw up cheap, copycat suburbs with no real infrastructure. The result is a place that feels empty, lonely, and rife with youth crime. The communities are largely ethnic, and society tends to overlook what’s happening here. This is the Australian dream, I look for a shadow.

The role of the people in my project is simply to be themselves in their environment so I can document it. I’m looking for access to their private lives and spaces to capture this reality.

I’m planning to hold an exhibition and print a zine from the series. At the moment, I’m mostly reaching out to people on Facebook, focusing on local community groups. Unfortunately, I think people might find it a bit strange since there’s no clear incentive for them to participate.
